12 Year Old Cat With Overactive Thyroid

My 12 year old kitty has been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid. Treatment options are 1) giving him pills for the rest of his life or 2) getting radioactive iodine treatment. Has anyone done radioactive iodine treatment for their cat. If so, what are the results. The vet says pills will manage the problem but radioactive iodine treatment will cure the problem. Any experience you have had with your cat would be greatly appreciated.
