Father Experiencing Acute Exacerbation of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Posted by Merve (Kahramanmaras, Turkey) on 02/05/2021

My father has been (İPF) patient since 2009. There is no treatment for this disease so doctors tell us that this. My father is 68 years old and he has never been a smoker. He did not need oxygen support for about 10 years and was able to do his routine work.

But 2 years ago occurred acute exacerbation of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Now receives about 20 hours of oxygen support.

Can stem cells cure idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis?

I want to ask you: Is there a cure for this disease? Or what do you recommend for my father? I read that pirfenidone for the treatment of patients with IPF to reduce the rate of decline in lung function. Is it true?

Hi Merve,

You might want to consider melatonin for your father with IPF. Here are a couple of studies suggesting it may be helpful :

Melatonin has a very good safety profile if he tolerates it, as some people don't tolerate melatonin, but the majority do. It is a noninvasive approach to see if it helps and is at least worth discussing with your Father's doctor to see if it will be compatible with his current meds and safe for your doctor to take. Good luck!

I wanted to say, I have COPD, and started on 90MG of melatonin (daily) and has helped my SOB. I also do nebulizer with peroxide 2 times a week.

I was diagnosed with this terrible disease about 5 or 6 years ago. I decided to do my own research for possible treatments since nothing else seemed to offer any very promising hope. I take 2capsules 125,000 spu each, once per day, without food. I have no pain unless I stop taking it for several days. I wish you the best.

EC: Hi, you did not mention the supplement you are taking. We presume you are referring to supplement serrapeptase?
