Advice Needed for Treating a Cat with Cancer with Turmeric

Posted by Glendalough (Northern California) on 01/25/2016

Hello,

I'm sorry if this is a duplicate post. I submitted it but I can't find it. Maybe it hasn't been approved yet.

I really love this site and I am hoping that I can receive some help.

My 9 year old cat was diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma in November last year. There is a tumor under her tongue. She is not receiving chemo or radiation and I refused to put her through surgery. I have known about turmeric for years for being great pain relief (I have taken it for back pain) and was told about Golden Paste for feline cancer and started giving her 1/4 teaspoon once a day working up to 1/4 teaspoon twice a day. I also read that giving high dose turmeric from capsules made for human consumption can be toxic to cats. On a message board, someone said that Golden Paste is ineffective because it doesn't contain a high enough percentage of curcumin extract, that you want to give your cat 750 mg. - 1,000 mg. daily of turmeric curcumin (standardized to 95%), up to 1 gram, 4 times per day, and this person has seen tumors shrink at that high of a dose. Then I read that giving more than 100 mg. curcumin a day can cause ulcers. I e-mailed Dr. Aggarwal about this and he said that turmeric root powder is best, but turmeric root powder has a very low curcumin extract percentage. I have been searching a long time to find out what is correct and have not had any luck and that is why I came here. Based on what the person said about 750 mg. - 1,000 mg., I have been giving my cat 750 mg. twice a day for a few days, mixed in her food with some olive oil. I started at ½ cap first and worked up. I have to assist feed her and have noticed that in the last few days, when I am feeding her less food is dropping out of her mouth which could mean that there is more room in her mouth for the food. Looking in her mouth traumatizes her for 2 days, I can't see what is happening in there. The product I am giving her is 500 mg. per capsule organic turmeric curcumin (350 mg. turmeric root powder, 150 mg. turmeric extract and 5 mg. bioperine). I do not know if what I am giving her is way too much or completely wrong. Is turmeric extract and curcumin extract the same thing? Is this person correct in that you want the high dose capsules and not the turmeric powder? Or should I listen to Dr. Aggarwal? I have read that people are having great results with just adding the turmeric powder to their pet's food. Help!

To clear up the confusion about curcumin and turmeric once and for all.

When it comes to the Ayurvedic system, western thinking of separating the chemical substances in a plant DO NOT WORK. This is what the western chemical doctors do, but it is incorrect. Turmeric has been used in its entire form for over 5000 years. IT IS THE WHOLE PLANT AND NOUGHT ELSE. Turmeric works best when it is cooked with ghee or a healthy oil. This is being done in Asia daily. Through isolation of chemicals that constitute the plant, adverse side effects are the result.

To dissolve organic turmeric powder in a good oil and pouring it over the food will be the best. Get away from capsules which is again a western fix quick idea and making a tea is not working as turmeric is not water soluble. Also forget about giving pepper with it which is a western idea.

The root in its entirety and the powder have some different effects but both are being used.

For your cat, aside from the right Essiac, give a quarter tsp. as described above, or just dissolved in the oil. Two to three times a day. Too much can derange the system but with cancer it has to be at least this amount for action.

I hope this is clear now as in the west all sorts of deviations from this ancient proven system is especially disseminated by allopathic doctors who do not even research Ayurveda.

Good luck. Namaste, Om

Thank you very much Om for taking the time to respond and for explaining about this.

I stopped the capsules and made Golden Paste without the pepper. She has been on different things morning and evening - molasses and baking soda, medicinal mushrooms, maitake d-fraction, IP6 and inositol, essiac. I rotate some of them, but I was giving at least 2 of them to her every day. I am not sure if she is responding to all of them, they might be too much for her. I was giving her some things over a month ago that made her throw up and I stopped immediately - artemisinin, Vitality Science Advanced Immune Restoration Protocol (this contained too many ingredients and was too strong). I have been giving her wheatgrass juice which she likes, 8 ml. per day, which I will continue. As for supplements. I want to see how she does on just the Golden Paste for now‚ 1/4 teaspoon twice a day mixed in her food, to see how she is responding to it. Of the other things, I don't know which of them were working and which weren't. But would it be a mistake to only have her on one thing as this cancer is so aggressive?

Am I correct in thinking that you feel she should be getting Essiac in addition to the turmeric? You mention the right Essiac. What kind is that? I was giving her Flor-Essence in her food but once I decided to give it mixed with water in a syringe and it made her throw up and I stopped it and bought Essiac capsules. The liquid Essiac concentrate has alcohol in it and I don't want to give that to her unless there is a way to get rid of the alcohol. I just received a product from Only Natural Pet – B.S.S.T. Herbal Formula. It's a liquid that contains the same 4 ingredients that is in Essiac without alcohol.

I've been praying that I will find her miracle in the supplements but I don't know what that is yet.

The true Essiac has all the roots included. That is especially the sheep sorrel which has long hair like roots. My own experience with Essiac is that for many years I took forms of Essiac that the health store was carrying stating that the original Essiac was too expensive and Floressence is not the original and they were selling herbals that claim to do the same magic. So I was thinking I was doing detox. I had no feedback., no reactions either. Then recently, I purchased the original Essiac from Essiac West online and began below the suggested dosage. Then I experienced a horrendous Herxheimer reaction during which I lost much weight with much body pain unable to eat and move around. I had no benefits from the other products and no idea of the original Essiac power. For me, I had to take way less to begin with.

Essiac original is not to be taken in caps. Syringe is good if you take time giving it slowly making eye contact.

It is expensive to combine the four herbs plus pull the roots as that will kill the plant. So the original four herb with roots included is a very potent combination and it is very expensive. Added to this is the fact that whoever has given full disclosure of the fantastic healings in detail, has had the FDA threaten them with closure and "you cannot mention it to the public" scenario. This is why Essiac is so underplayed and pushed into almost oblivion. I myself have read the many testimonials and they were incredible. But if anyone will do research in Rene Caisse's work, it will all become apparent. Her name is spelled backwards, becoming "Essiac".

Her patients were almost exclusively those given up by mainstream meds. And her work was always free of charge. Well, the System discredited her totally. This info I available online. Try not to over medicate and be consistent and you will see the results, hopefully soon.

I ordered the tea from Essiac West and made it yesterday. Someone on a website said that they were given instructions from another company that sells essiac on how to make 1 pint of tea: 2 cups water and 1 tablespoon herbs - and to give approximately 2 ml.

This person originally wrote the instructions to be 2 tablespoons herbs but later corrected it to 1 tablespoon. I was thinking of their original amount and accidentally used 2 tablespoons and I'm wondering if this will be too strong for her. I definitely do not want overkill. If this would be too strong I will dillute it, should I give the same amount of water as the amount of tea?

I read that you can't give any herbs with the essiac that cleanse the liver as that would be too hard on a cat and turmeric cleanses the liver. But what about mushrooms? I have been giving her those almost every day. I wanted to do the essiac by itself to see how well it is working, but I don't know if that would be giving her too little to fight the cancer. I need a miracle for her.

I too have a cat, 10 1/2 years old, that has squamous cell carcinoma under her tongue. She was diagnosed the beginning of July 2017 and if you were to look at her and how she behaves, you'd never know anything was wrong with her. I found the growth when I noticed that she wasn't eating and took her to the vet. She's always been a small, thin cat so I really didn't notice she was thinner than normal. I started her on essiac tea right away, 1 teaspoon 3 times daily for a month and that didn't seem to do anything. After that I gave her molasses with baking soda 2 times a day for 2 weeks. I also had her on Cell Forte, AHCC, lactoferrin, and shark cartilage. I had to open the capsules and mix them with the liquid from some canned cat food. I only gave her 1/2 capsule of each at a time and not all of them at once. Each time she ended up getting 6cc. total liquid/powder.

I haven't tried the turmeric with her even though I have used it on my other pets. I'm pretty sure she would not like it and I would have to force her to take it, which I won't do. Don't know what one thing helped her or if it was all of them but just a couple of weeks after starting her on everything, she gained weight and was her old self again. I've changed what I give her and for now, I give her essiac for 2 weeks, then molasses/baking soda the next 2 weeks. She gets AHCC, Cell Forte, shark cartilage, pau d arco, lactoferrin, reduced glutathione and have started her on serrapeptase. I don't give them all at once. I used to just open the capsules and give her 1/2 of the powder but sometimes she'd get more of one and less of another. I ordered some tiny measuring spoons that work great. When giving her pau d arco and reduced glutathione, 1/2 capsule would be too much for her so I empty the capsules in an empty vitamin bottle (puritan prides bottles with flip top work great) and then use the tiny measuring spoons. I tried giving her artemisinin but that is so very, very bitter that even I wouldn't be able to handle it. I always taste any supplement that I have to give out of the capsule so I'll know if my pets will be able to handle it. I tasted artemisinin and knew she wouldn't take it, even mixed in with food.

The ones that I give together now are AHCC, shark cartilage, pau d arco, lactoferrin and reduced glutathione along with the liquid from the cat food and it all amounts to 6cc. and she loves it. She really doesn't care for the essiac or molasses/baking soda but she lets me give it to her. She's still as active as ever and eating good but she still has the growth. I've changed what and when I give them to her several times, trying to find what works. She doesn't like me looking in her mouth so I don't, I just try to look when I give her the supplements. I won't give her anything that I have to force on her because I don't want to make what time she has left miserable.

Good Luck with your cat. If you find something that does work to get rid of the tumor, please post it.
