Apple Cider Vinegar Or Apple Sauce Better For Child With Diarrhea

Posted by Shopaholic (Saint Paul, Minnesota) on 11/20/2014

Can I give ACV to a 3 year old boy with diarrhea? If apple or ACV work with diarrhea, can apple sauce do the same?

Dear Shopaholic,

I give ACV to little ones (even younger than three) for diarrhea.

Apple sauce is one of the things on the BRAT diet (things to eat when you have diarrhea - bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) But I think ACV is a more concentrated way to get it in.

I give toddlers a teaspoon of ACV in juice as needed.

If you toddler will take it, 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric in applesauce can be taken also. It works very well for diarrhea.

I hope your little boy feels better soon!

I think ACV is quite effective for child in diarrhea. Mostly apple is a nice fruit and used to control diarrhea or constipation.

Lack of vitamin A may raise the chance of occurring diarrhea. So take apple in your healthy diet.

Diarrhea should never be taken lightly as it can leave you dehydrated and cause severe complications. Try out a few home remedies for diarrhea.

I can't coax my son to eat applesauce in addition to bananas, rice, and toast. He will eat as much as 3 bananas but rejects applesauce. He eats apples but not as much as he does the bananas. I tried to mix 1 tsp of ACV with his juice, he drank it the first time but refused to drink the succeeding cups when he smelled the ACV. We have to force-fed him using a dropper just to get him to ingest the mixture. Although it is a messy work with him trying to spit it out and crying, we keep doing it everytime he has diarrhea as it is very effective.

Thank you Mama to Many for sharing this remedy. Thank you also for others who have contributed their ideas!
