Is she having skin allergy, mange, or both? Her vet is not sure (no scraping done yet). Prescribed (and applied) Madre De Cacao leave-on spray (organic). Rare scratching. Still very active, as usual. No change in appetite (huge appetite).

Hey Sky!

It is possible that the 'white spots' are demodectic mange; sarcoptic mange is very itchy, which is why I am thinking demodex.

In my experience, with young puppies that are breaking with demodex, the areas that show mite overgrowth appear greasy and the hair thins and then you get the 'mottled' or 'flea bit' appearance/white spots. Most often this starts at the head and you often see bare rings around the eyes - 'goggles' due to the hair loss. The bare spots then start to get a reddish rash appearance, hence the nickname ' red mange'. As it advances the red areas often develop black heads or black dots in the hair follicle.

I would not hesitate to begin treating this little girl with Ted's Mange remedy - three times [every other day] the first week, and then once a week for a total of 12 weeks - do this for the entire run of 12 weeks even if she appears to be fully recovered.

The Madre De Cacao is a great anti-fungal, but if you are dealing with demodex mites it will not touch them. If borax is not available, you might consider powdered sulpher flowers mixed into an oil carrier such as coconut oil or possibly even castor oil. The key is to treat the entire body of the dog and not just what appear to be the affected areas; in this way the borax solution is ideal as the sulpher flower and oil mixture creates one smelly, greasy pup!

Hi Sky,

I agree with Theresa, Madre de cacao is very effective. I use the Madre de cacao oil to cure the mange of my dog. And now his okay. His fur grew back and it's now smooth and shiny.
