Need Help for Autoimmune Cirrhosis

Autoimmune cirrhosis
A friend told me to this earthclinic site
Now I don't drink, I don't do drugs and I don't smoke, last year I was getting this fluid was building up, I was going to a regular doctor but with all the tests I asked about getting the fluids drained from my abdomen and the only answer I was getting was go to the ER will after they put me on so many meds like prednisone 40 mg and a host of other expensive drugs... I think they were picking these drugs because they had the highest price but I was getting second opinions and getting a lot of conflicting information... A doctor in the ER tested the fluids drained from the parisentesis and found out that the fluids were infected, now the other doctors that were working on the problem didn't think of this and the ER doctor put me in the hospital on a broad spectrum antibiotic... Now I am allergic to amoxicillin and the doctors in the hospital new that... I was in the hospital for a week or so, but this year I went into the hospital again and the fluids again were infected so this time the doctor did a petri test and gave me what I needed and they sent me home but your diet is different now but Last year they never sent me to a nutritionist and this year a different doctor finally got me scheduled with one and that went well.
So besides being off work on medical leave... I wish I had someone to help me deal with all that... But this time being in the hospital and being off work I've started to get afraid to Go back to work, because I worked retail and I'm worried about the environment being the the problem, I work in a dairy in and out of the cold all the time and I've heard stories about the coolent leaking into the Air and then there's the sick people and the sick kids that come into the store. This has been such a hard time for me trying to understand how to deal with this, now I'm not vaccinated, I was smarter than that! If I had I'd probably be dead by now. So now I'm looking for a more natural healing Way.

Hi Jkjeff,
If you mean cirrhosis that is caused by autoimmune hepatitis (the most common cause), one useful supplement that could be adjunctive to standard treatment to help protect the liver is Silymarin from Milk Thistle. It helps through various mechanisms that are relevant to autoimmune hepatitis.
- Reduces oxidative stress
- In autoimmune hepatitis, immune cells generate large amounts of reactive oxygen species that damage hepatocytes.
- Silymarin:
- Scavenges free radicals.
- Increases intracellular glutathione.
- Activates the Nrf2 antioxidant pathway.
- Helps preserve mitochondrial function.
This may reduce ongoing injury to surviving liver cells.
- Suppresses inflammatory signaling
Silymarin has been shown to decrease:- TNF-α
- IL-1β
- IL-6
- NF-κB activation
These inflammatory mediators contribute to liver damage regardless of what initially triggered the disease.
- May partially modulate the immune response
Rather than broadly suppressing immunity like corticosteroids, silymarin appears to:- Reduce excessive T-cell activation.
- Increase regulatory T-cell activity in some experimental models.
- Reduce inflammatory macrophage activation.
These effects are modest compared with prescription immunosuppressive therapy.
- Reduces fibrosis
One of the most interesting actions is inhibition of hepatic stellate cells.
Activated stellate cells produce collagen that leads to cirrhosis.
Silymarin has been shown experimentally to:
- Reduce stellate cell activation.
- Decrease collagen deposition.
- Lower expression of TGF-β.
- Reduce extracellular matrix accumulation.
This may slow progression of fibrosis.
- Supports liver regeneration
Silymarin may:
- Increase protein synthesis within hepatocytes.
- Stabilize cell membranes.
- Promote regeneration of surviving liver cells.
These effects have been observed in both laboratory and some clinical studies.
Warning
Autoimmune hepatitis is a dangerous disease so you will need to get your doctor's approval and monitoring before using silymarin to make sure it will be compatible with your medications and to make sure you are not allergic to Silymarin. A person can be allergic to almost anything so monitoring is needed, at least initially and then your doctor can guide you from there.
Another useful supplement is vitamin D, if your level is low. It will require one simple blood test to determine your vitamin D level.
Also, one more useful supplement is NAC, which will also require your doctor's approval and supervision.
Keep us posted on how you do!
