Which Calcium Supplements Are Best for Osteopenia?
Which Calcium Supplement for Osteopenia?
After my bone density test I was diagnosed with Osteopenia, of course the Doctors suggested taking a calcium supplement. He did not specify what type or amount. Since I had a minor stroke, and stint insert in Left Coritaded Artery, I'm supposed to take stains, which I refuse, I've read where taking calcium can also collect in the veins. My morning meds: Amlodipine Besylate 2.5mg 1x, Glucosamine 1500mg, Chondroitin Sulfate Sodium 1200mg 1x, Ubiquinol 100mg 1x, Fish Oil 1200mg 1x, Nattokinase 200 mg 1x. Evenings: Amlodipine Besylate 2.5mg 1x, Triple Magnesium 400mg 1x, Vit.D3,125mcg, MK-7 100mcg, Circulation & Vein Support(all various herbal) 1x, Fish Oil 1200mg 1x, Niacin 500mg(flushing)1x. My last cholesterol lab report showed; total 209, tri-74, hdl-71, vldl-13, ldl-125. The question is if I should take a calcium sup., and/or best type, mg, and when.

Hi Mary,
If you are going to supplement with calcium try using lower dose capsules or pills that the body can handle well. A supplement like the following that contains calcium in a fairly low dose along with magnesium and might be useful as the magnesium works well together with the calcium and also works well with vitamin D to help fend off osteoporosis, since you now have osteopenia:
