Seeking Help For Cat With Pinkish Eyes and Greenish Discharge

Posted by Nnah (Manila, Philippines) on 02/08/2016

Hi, I have a Siamese cat. She is under treatment now due to Ringworm and Scabies.

I'm just worried because both or her eyes are pinkish. Her vet said that's just the cause of fungal infection because of the Ringworm. She recommended using a cloth with luke warm water to wipe away the discharge of her eyes. Or I can buy Tears Naturale eye drops for my kitten.

I bought the drops but I also use clean cloth with luke warm water to remove her eyes' discharge.

But after two weeks of using, still no improvement. She still has Greenish discharge. And her eyes are still pinkish. To the point that she can't even open her eyes when she woke up due to her discharge.

I just wanna ask if this is another problem or is it just because of the Ringworm and Scabies?

I'm really worried because of the condition of her eyes. Though based on my observations, there's no changes in her behavior. She's still jolly and eats like the usual.

Hope you can help me. Good day!

Dear Nnah,

I would try chamomile tea and/or coconut oil.

Each day make a cup of chamomile tea. Every couple of hours, wipe each eye with some warm chamomile tea. Then gently wipe a little bit of extra virgin coconut oil over each eye. Some will end up in the eye. Both remedies are safe in the eyes.

I wouldn't think this would be related to the ringworm or scabies, but can't be sure.

I don't have a specific recommendation, but it looks like maybe it's an allergy, since both of her eyes are red. Just a guess, and something to ask the Vet about. Sorry I don't have any ideas to help you other than that. :)

Hello Nnah,

You might consider a boric acid eye wash:

Boric Acid Eyewash

The following recipe has been handed down through my family. Boric Acid Eyewash is very beneficial in fighting eye infections, irritation from foreign particles in the eye or contact lenses, air pollution (smog). It is very soothing. Basically, boric acid creates an inhospitable environment in eye for germs and bacteria. At the same time, it cleanses and sooths the eye.

Purchase boric acid powder at your local pharmacy. Ask the pharmacist for "medicinal" boric acid powder. (There is another type, which is used as a bug-killer.) This is very important!!!!!!!!!!

Supplies needed:

1 level teaspoon of Boric Acid Powder ((((medicinal quality))))
1 cup boiling water in a Pyrex measuring cup
Cotton balls
Small clean bowl or teacup

Instructions:

Boil one cup water either on the stove or in the microwave oven. (I use a Pyrex measuring cup in the microwave.)
Add one level teaspoon of Boric Acid Powder (medicinal quality). Use a measuring spoon, not silverware!!!!!!! Stir until dissolved. Let cool to a luke warm temperature.
Pour ¼ cup of the cooled solution into a small clean bowl or teacup. Soak a cotton ball in the solution in the bowl and apply to affected eye, cleaning away discharge from the eye.
Throw used cotton ball away after one use. Repeat using new cotton ball until all the solution in the bowl is used up. Try to flood the eye with the solution and wipe face with a clean towel.
Cleanse both eyes with the solution to prevent the infection from spreading to the unaffected eye.
Repeat procedure at least twice a day, in the morning and before bed at night. Eye infections usually take two or three days to resolve themselves using this treatment.
Store unused portions of eyewash in the Pyrex measuring cup. Just cover with plastic wrap to keep it sanitary.

I use colloidal silver on a soft cloth to treat red, itchy, mattered eyes on my cats and dogs (and burros). The best part about this remedy is that the silver doesn't sting or have a distinctive odor. It usually clears the problem within a day or two. All the best to you and your pretty kitty.

Hello,

I have a female cat that had one runny eye and my dad told me to make regular black tea but don't make it strong, brew it more on the mild side and when the tea is warm to cool he told me to soak my cats eye in the black mild tea. The next day the cat's eye was clear! My dad told me that his mother always used this in their family for humans and it always worked. Hope it helps.
