Need Help For Chronic Nasal Congestion and Runny Eyes in Cats

Posted by Marie (Metairie, La) on 01/12/2017

Chronic nasal congestion and runny eye occasionally.

I have 2 cats that have chronic respiratory issues. They are rescue cats and about 8 years old each. I have had them for 2 years. I feed them primarily Science Diet (light and longevity) mixed with Hill's Ideal balance for one of them. In the evening I mix ProPlan Urinary tract salmon wet food with the dry food. They currently get 1 scoop of Viralys a day and I put about 6 drops of Newton's liquid for Cough Asthma for cats in their wet blend food each day. I am at wit's end trying to end this cycle of congestion in them.

Hello Marie,

You might consider switching to grain free diets for both your kitties and see if that makes a difference. While the first ingredient in the diets you feed is chicken - and ingredients are listed by weight, the rest of the ingredients are grains and fillers. Since chicken meat is roughly 80% water, when dried it becomes a fraction of the protien in the diet, so you are essentially feeding your cats grain as a diet, and grain based diets have been linked to many health issues in our pets.
