Continued Gut Health Issues 15 Months After Stomach Flu
I had the stomach flu over a year ago, and have had residual symptoms (e.g., nausea, abdominal tenderness, etc.) ever since.
Symptoms come and go, but have not completely gone away.
I saw a GI specialist last summer, who prescribed Omeprazole to give my GI trac a chance to heal. When I weaned off, as prescribed, the symptoms came back full-force.
Since then, I took probiotics for a month, and I've been trying to drink kombucha and eat fermented foods, when available. I did aloe vera juice for a month or two, which did cut down on the inflammation but has since stopped helping.
I saw another gi specialist this past week, who had good reviews. She suggested I do a low-FODMAP diet for two weeks, and suggested IBGard (peppermint oil capsules) to help manage symptoms in the meantime while I waited to get the colonoscopy and endoscopy she was ordering. After starting her suggestion actions, I felt worse instead of better and started rethinking the action plan. The more I thought about it (especially in light of the worsening symptoms), the more it seemed to miss the mark.

Hi scmn,
You might give ginger root powder capsules consideration as they are quite beneficial and calming to the stomach and gut. Here is a typical product that I have had good luck with :
I have had good luck at one capsule every 6 to 8 hours.

You need to stay away from fermented foods/high histamine. Any time infection histamine levels rise. Eat low histamine foods. Take a echinacea, elderberry tea, twice a day until run out. Get low histamine probiotics and take one daily for three months. Take Turmeric with bio-perine, twice a day. You may need to take astragulus after tea, two a day for 1 to 3 months. It's anti -viral and bacterial and levels out immune system, adaptogenic. You may need to see acupuncturist so they can work with nerves to level out digestive tract. Auricular Therapy uses seeds if you don't like needles.

Some additional info
Two main enzymes break down histamine. First diamine oxidase (DAO) in the gut and histamine-N-methyltransferase (HNMT) for the nervous system. On Amazon you can look for histamine enzymes.
BioEnergyLife histamine control has both enzymes. Two revive DAO in the gut you need to kill off bad bacteria and reestablish good bacteria. Nutrients that support diamine oxidase (DAO) enzyme activity include copper, vitamin B6, vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, calcium, and vitamin B12. These nutrients are essential for the proper functioning and synthesis of DAO in the body.
Nutrients that support HNMT (histamine N-methyltransferase) include vitamin B6, vitamin C, and copper. A food based multivit/min and probotics essential. Liver cleansing and kidney cleansing imperative.
