Copper Sulphate for Parasites Safe for Pets?

Posted by Kantuckee (Kentucky) on 02/26/2017

We are located in an invasive wave of parasites in animals. I am reading about copper sulphate added to water or food that works on goats, sheep, horses and cows on homestead and farms. Does anyone have any information on this and does it work on cats and dogs? Thank you!

Hey Kantuckee,

Probably not. I did see this mentioned on some natural goat forums with lethal results. Pat Coleby wrote the book "Natural Goat Care" and discusses using copper sulphate in her book, however critics point out that what may work for a herd in Australia might prove lethal for a herd on different soil. And many factors that involve natural copper sources in the soil or in feed that combined with supplemented copper sulphate means you could very easily poison your goats. It appears that inadvertently poisoning your livestock is very, very easy to do with copper sulphate and experienced livestock keepers report accidentally poisoning their animals despite years of experience. I did not find use of copper sulphate in dogs and cats but I did not do an extensive search.
