Debilitating Pain From Vulvodynia, Doctor's Not Helping
I have had vulvodynia for about 3 years now, it's gotten very bad in the past several months and I've actually gone to doctors about it, trying to figure it out. I've done almost everything I can and I don't what else to do. I quit my job because of all the pain it was causing me months ago, and I'm going into my first year at university and staying in residence, moving at the end of August. I've tryed eating less sugar, prescribed lidocaine ointment, ointment that is supposed to reduce burning sensations, and I am currently on an anti-depressant called amitriptyline that is suppose to help with nerve pain. It was helping for a while and I didn't have any pain until a few days ago when it came back and haven't left since. I'm very stuck, and I don't know what else I can do, not to mention I'm moving away next month and I'm nonetheless terrified. I am just wondering if there is anything else I can do, no doctors seem to know what could help. Please help!

Dear Eden,
Damiana is an herb that increases blood flow to the pelvic area and helps a burning pain associated with menopause. I am wondering if this would help you. You can use capsules or tinctures of damiana - a little goes a long way. You take it internally. (1 capsule or dropperful of tincture, once or twice a day.)
Also, two remedies at EC that have helped some ladies are coconut oil and peppermint lip balm, topically. Peppermint lip balm would be cooling and increase circulation. If you use the lip balm, use a natural one! Or you could add 1 drop of peppermint essential oil in 1 Tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil and use that topically. If it feels too strong, add more coconut oil.
Those are two things I would try for myself. I hope you find a good solution - please let us know how it goes.
