Dog Miserable with Itchy Skin

Posted by Liz (Nj) on 08/30/2015

My golden keeps scratching & biting himself. He has bald spots where he's biting & he's making himself bleed. I do not see mites/fleas or any type of bugs. I'm taking him to the veterinarian this week, but I want to make him feel comfortable for now. Is there a home remedy I can use until I can get him to the vet? Please help!!

Hey Liz!

You can help your dog feel more comfortable by giving him an oatmeal bath/shampoo followed up with a vinegar rinse. You can also alkalize his water with baking soda which may really help.

You may also need to change his food to a higher-quality food. Different protein source, perhaps, and no grain or corn in it.

Make sure you ONLY use organic Apple Cider Vinegar (also known as OACV - the brand that begins with "Br"). You can do the vinegar rinse after shampooing as Theresa recommended. Mix up 1 cup OACV and 10 cups distilled water and get him soaked with this. Do not rinse it off. Let him air-dry.

Also, mix in 2 tablespoons of OACV to his food each time you feed him. Do this every day for 3 months, making sure you're also feeding him better food, and he should feel better.

Also do more reading of other's experiences with OACV here on this site.
