Will Ted's Remedy Help Dog With Sarcoptic Mange and Open Sores?

Posted by Patty B (Livingston, Tx) on 06/26/2015

I have been reading posts with interest We jave a 4 month old lab mix rescue diagnosed with sarcoptic mange by vet. We were given a chemical dip to use once a week for 4 weeks. The dog now has absolutely NO hair and has open sores. We just cannot afford to take her back to the vet at this time althiugh I am debating having her put down. This is a last ditch effort for me. Can we use the borax/hp solution on a dog with open sores? What about neem oil? She has suffered enough. I do not want to make it worse. She's an intelligent awesome dog & I would hate to put her down. Any help appreciated.

Hey Patty!

You can use Ted's Mange remedy on open sores. I say this because I have used this remedy many, many times while I myself had cuts and sores on my arms and hands. I did not experience any stinging or burning so having the remedy on my open cuts did not cause me any pain.

The scabies mite lives 3-4 weeks on your dogs skin as larvae and then adults. The adults lay eggs that hatch anywhere from 3 to 10 days after they are laid. If this were my dog I would try dipping her every other day for 3 treatments and then once per week after that for an additional 5 dips/weeks.

Homeopathic Psorinum [potency 30c] may help fight the mites from the inside out. Additionally dosing baking soda in the water to alkalize her system and balance her PH, and alternating with the borax in the water to help fight any systemic yeast in the GI tract will help with her immune response. I dose my dogs with baking soda and borax and drink it myself too.

Dosing for baking soda is 1 teaspoon per 1/2 liter of water and have this be her only drinking water available. Some dogs balk at the change in taste of the water so I usually start with 1/2 teaspoon per liter for a few days and work up to the stronger dose; they seem to accept the water once they get over the change in flavor. After 1 week on the full dose I will drop it down to 1/2 or 1/4 teaspoon per liter for an additional week.

Dosing for borax is 1/8 teaspoon per liter of water and this as the only drinking water.

Timing:
Borax dosage for 1 week. Then 1/2 dosage in week 2. Stop for 1 week. Resume.

or

Borax dosage for 4 days, then no borax/water for 3 to 4 days. Continue on/off schedule until ailment clears.

Fighting itchy mange mites is stressful; make sure your girl has top quality groceries with no grains or dyes in her food or treats. If her skin seems to be drying out due to the frequent dipping, consider a restorative oil treatment on alternating days - Murphy's Oil Soap [original formula] is good and putting a few drops of lavender oil in will help relax you both!

Neem oil is supposed to work against the mites by making them sterile. It can be good for the open sores as well. I find it spendier than the borax and HP but if you feel it is indicated I would go for it.

Good luck and please report back!
