Posted by Michelle (Baltimore, Maryland ) on 01/26/2021

My 18 year old daughter doesn't have a period and refuses to go to an endocrinologist. Any advice?

Dear Michelle,

Did your daughter have periods and they have stopped?

Too much or too little body fat can cause periods to stop. Could one of those be the problem?

When I was 18 I was under a lot of stress and had a 3 week period. Then no period. So stress can really mess up a teens cycle, also.

While you are trying to get through this difficulty, try spending some no stress quality time with your daughter. The more she knows you are her advocate the more likely she is to include your advice into her life as she considers her heath (and other) challenges.

I'm curious if your daughter had the HPV vaccine? My stepdaughter did, and seems to be in the same situation.

Massage by someone who can do Reflexology and Acupressure, to stimulate the endocrine and reproductive systems. I've helped women regain their periods after childbirth in this way.

Yes, reflexology does work. I am a reflexologist and have worked on women with this problem and it worked. Also use essential oils like geranium and clary sage or lavender yang ylang, or go to aromatherapist for a good blend. Acupressure points too help. When you combine two therapies it gives better results. So try reflexology plus one other therapy. Hope this helps.

She may be having hormonal issues and should try taking pumpkin seeds as well as some flaxseeds.

These seeds will help with hormone balancing. Women having irregular periods start having their periods regularly when they take pumpkin seeds. Flaxseeds is majorly used for period pain.

Best Regards.

Hello Michelle,

try to get following two herbs:

1. Alchemilla xanthochlora (also known as Dewcup or Lady's Mantle)
2. Achillea millefolium (also known as Yarrow)

Let your daughter drink infusion of these 2 herbs daily for about 2 months.
They work well together for various lady issues, including reducing heavy periods or starting missing periods.

How to do the infusion:

Take rich teaspoon of each herb and put it to a cup. Boil water and pour it slowly over the herbs. Then place cover over the cup to stop the important essential substances from evaporating. Leave it to infuse for about 15 min and then drink it slowly.

Both herbs are mild, however in these days of ever-present allergies to everything, I would test first small amount to see if any allergic reactions occur.

I think it is too soon to see an endocrinologist. You would first want to rule out the typical causes of absent menstruation. First, are you saying that she has never had a period? OR.... did she have normal periods which have since stopped? Your answer to this will make a big difference as to what step to take next.

Anyway, there are many things that can interfere with normal periods. Too little body fat, too much body fat, intense physical workouts, and so on. Also, make sure she knows that birth control medication will likely interfere as well.

I'd make sure she went to her family doctor or perhaps her OBGYN. Since she is 18, you can't force her to go to a doctor if she isn't willing. So the best you can do is make suggestions and let her decide what direction to take.

I wish you the best of luck!

Hi there, I've had two close friends regain their menstrual cycles from acupuncture. they were both under work stress and one of them needed to take a medical leave to relax to the point where her body could rebalance itself.

I’ve also found that the birth control pill can affect my cycle and after I went off it my cycle came back.

I agree with some other comments here that body fat and exercise intensity can affect one‘s cycle too.

If she has never had a period, does she have 'periodic' abdominal discomfort, bloat, etc., (the 'usual' hormone related things that go along with the cycle for most of us)? No discomfort or other suspect symptoms, as all the above comments. If she experiences abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating, etc., and it is gradually increasing, you need to be sure it's not an imperforate hymen that is obstructing and preventing flow. That isn't something to put off treating; you sure don't want endometriosis!

Courtesy of Healthline: Symptoms of an imperforate hymen

  • Lack of a menstrual cycle despite having other signs of sexual maturity, such as developing breasts and pubic hair.
  • Abdominal or pelvic pain, often come and going each month.
  • Back pain.
  • Painful urination or no urination at all....
  • Bowel problems, such as constipation.

I read a book by a European doctor who was a genius. He said that long time ago women had their periods in their early twenties. Even 25. England was an example. Those women were considered the most healthy. According to him, women nowadays have their periods too early.

Hello,

You can try Phyo-L from Steierl-Pharma, 82211 Herrsching, Germany. This homöp. works on the Hypophyses. If you cannot get it, I give you the compositation: in 10ml Chelidonium majus, Dil. D5,1,0ml, Silybum marianum, Dil. D5,1,0ml, Vitex agnus-castus Dil. D5,1,0ml. A good drugstore can mix it for you. 3x50 drops, not less.

Within 1 to 3 month it should work. For ladies who have an irregular period, it works wonderfully. I used to take this drops instead the pill. May be she has a problem with her Mom. Than you must give her a brake and arrange a stay away from home.

Try blackstrap molasses. One teaspoon twice to three times a day for a week or so.

It works wonders for women who can't get pregnant due to lack of or erratic menstruation.

Good luck and God bless.

Did your daughter get the hpc vaccine? if yes, that could be the cause and she would need to go to an alternative medical Practioner to get help such as someone who does muscle testing in order to figure out how to hopefully reverse it. You can find conversations about this on the internet as it is unfortunately common.

Vitamin E.

I don't know what's the connection with vitamin E and menstruation, but my daughter was 8 years old when doctors prescribed her high dose of vitamin E because one of her kidneys wasnt developed enough, she took it for about 6 months and she just turned 9 when her breasts started to grow and she got her first period. She was small and tiny, I don't remember the exact dose she took, it was 24 years ago. Vitamin E did help her with her kidney just fine, and staring her period prematurely was a side effect. There is something to do with hormone growth. Maybe you can do some research about it. I hope your daughter gets her period soon!

This is not a natural remedy and would require a Medical diagnosis.

Years ago, my best friend's daughter had never started a period. She also had underdeveloped breasts, seemed a bit immature for her age, and started having swelling in her feet. It turned out to be something called Turner's Syndrome and she was missing an X chromosome. Just throwing this out there.......
