Feels Like Something Is Stuck In My Eye

I have the feeling there is something in my eye, inside the lower lid. I have flushed with saline and it is temporarily better. It feels as if it moves--when I lay my head on my pillow, it feels like it moves farther from my nose toward the outer edge of my eye. I see no swelling. Also, when I wear my contacts I don't feel it at all, so I'm thinking it's the eyelid, not the eye itself. As soon as the contact comes out, there's that feeling again. I've gone a week without contacts and it got worse (kept rubbing it, I guess). What should I use to soothe and/or get rid of this?
