Flea Infestation On Old Property
Need Advice - Older home, small children and pest problems.
Hello to all,
Need advice for cutting down:
mosquito's (! )
fleas
red ants
roaches
spiders
rats
The mosquito's and the fleas are worst! Recently, my young son and I moved into an older country home with my mom. The house was built around 1890 and hasn't changed much since. The house needs some TLC. Yard Info:
2 1/2 acers of land
Large Oaks
Smaller ponds w/ fish
Grassy areas
Sandy areas
Tall weeds
All types of plants
My mother has a couple of dogs and horses on the property. And, the woods are full of stray cats. I've tired most of the common tips, but normally includes poison of some sort. My son is only two, so I'm hoping to find safer solutions other then poisons. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you for reading my question. I'll be reading through this website, because I'm sure I'll find much helpful advice as well.

Regular food cornmeal for the ants-spread it on the grass/ dirt where their little hills are. They take it back to the nest and they explode and die-reapply if rain-ground cloves in small dishes or covers or on a piece of paper-on window sills, near baseboards-anywhere u see them coming in the little ant traps, also work pretty good. Bats are an enemy of mosquitos-provide a couple bat houses for them-buy them or google it and build your own-Lemon geraniums in the spring, all along the foundation of house-and around where you sit a lot-they smell great and deter mosquitos.
Food grade D.E. make sure its food grade-they are many things you can do that don't cost a lot of money! If and when you bath the pets, you must vacumn also, there are also flea traps, those I use and they do work good for me! The flea is attracted to the warm night light and die on the sticky pad or make your own..
