Conflicting Advice about Giving Diatomaceous Earth with Food

I am confused about giving DE with pet food when it states for human consumption not to take with food because it would remove the nutrients from the food. Every thing I have read says to put DE on the pets food. Shouldn't it be given to pets in the same manner, before a meal? I don't want it to robe the nutrients from our pets food along with supplements we give them. Many thanks!
