Hard Bump on Shoulder

Posted by Linda (Tampa) on 12/05/2025

When I was young, I had a large boil on my shoulder. It pretty much went away but left a hard bump in the spot. Every so often, I can squeeze puss out of it then it decreases. However a few days later it grows back to a large bump again. Doesnt bother me, but sort of stands out when I wear tank tops or swim suits. Thoughts to get rid of this?

Linda, boils are infections, usually Staph aureus, which normally lives on the skin, but sometimes dives deep. I have tried a variety of things, and my best and permanent solution has been 27% hydrogen peroxide. Some pool stores carry it. Or you can dillute 35% often available in health food stores. Just rub it into the lesion for a few seconds. It will tingle or itch for a little while, the skin may turn white. All normal. Do it every day for a few weeks and you will see results. Do not try to drain or lance, that can spread the infection. The peroxide will take care of it without any disturbance. Best of luck!

Hi Linda,

I had a strange bump on one side of the back of my neck which was very difficult to get rid of. The bump took many forms and was there on the back of my neck for over 20 years. I tried lugols iodine, hydrogen peroxide etc but nothing worked.

So in 2018 I was pretty worried about the strange bump so I got serious and had a rethink. I was worried because the bump was right next to my neck bones, nerve channels and backbone. Over the course of those twenty years sometimes a strange open hole would appear on the bump and the exuding discharge really smelt awful!

So I changed my thinking about the bump. Maybe it wasn't bacteria but perhaps it was caused by a parasite or some small bug that had burrowed into the back of my neck.

So here's what I did. I treated the bump with 2 different protocols using different combinations of DMSO(Dimethyl sulfoxide), borax and methylene blue.

On alternative days I would use the following two protocols:

I would dab the bump with 1/16 tspn of borax dissolved in 10 mls DMSO + 10 mls water and let it be absorbed into the bump. I used this protocol to kill any bug or parasite causing the bump. Borax will dissolve the chitin "skin" of any small bug and kill it. Borax also kills fungus as well as a wide range of bacteria as well.

The next day I would use 4 drops of 1% methylene blue(MB) + 10 mls DMSO + 10 mls water. This protocol will kill everything else -- including bacteria, viruses and parasites.

More explicitly:

1st Day -- 1/16 tspn of borax dissolved in 10 mls DMSO + 10 mls water. Dab the bump.

2nd Day -- 4 drops 1% MB dissolved in 10 mls DMSO + 10 mls water. Dab the bump.

3rd Day -- 1/16 tspn of borax dissolved in 10 mls DMSO + 10 mls water.

4th Day -- 4 drops 1% MB dissolved in 10 mls DMSO + 10 mls water. Dab the bump.

I used the protocol for only 4 days and it worked -- it completely dissolved the bump, which disappeared completely.

You can buy both 1% Methylene Blue and DMSO online at Amazon.

And since you live in the US, you should also be able to buy and use 20 Mule Team Borax(unscented) from the washing isle your local supermarket and use that.

Just to also clarify why I used DMSO. When you dab DMSO on your skin, it opens the pores so that all the 85% of the DMSO(and anything dissolved in it) will be carried through the skin into the blood. So the DMSO would carry the 1% MB and borax through the skin, which would kill any critter that was there.

It worked for me.

It sounds like a blocked oil gland duct--the very common Sebaceous Cyst --"A fluid-filled sac appearing as a dome-shaped lump." "Had it for years" and "painless" are common descriptives too.

I know castor oil applied to it (keeping it covered with an oil-coated bandage can help dissolve and draw out the blockage, though they tend to recur. If you google it you may see some familiar images.
