Hi, my name is Jannette and I am a 77-year-old lady that fell and broke one of her arms just above the elbow two weeks ago and I was wondering if it would be safe to Take glucosamine chondroiton for healing broken bones., it's in a cast and they're hoping it will grow back together itself without surgery, but would it be safe to take something like that? Would that be ok or not?

I would be buying a jar of comfrey salve/ointment. It's referred to as knit bone. And I would apply to the area 2 to 3 times per day until you get relief. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Hi Jannette,

Three supplements that are likely to be more useful than a glucosamine supplement combo are zinc, boron and vitamin K2 Menaquinone 7 (K2M7) all three of which help bones to heal through various methods of action and label suggested dosing is usually adequate for the purpose.

There are other useful supplements such as magnesium, silicon and vitamin D, but the first three are important. If you are not currently supplementing vitamin D, then you might consider adding it also because vitamin D level declines with age and at 77 years of age, your native vitamin D level (25 OH d level) is likely deficient. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
