Seeking Advice to Heal a Vein Injury on Shin

The vein that goes diagonally across my shin was injured by the recoiling metal clip of a retractable dog leach. The vein soon swelled to the size of a large straw (approx. 2/3 inch). At home, I elevated my leg and applied an ice pack on and off all day. The swelling is reduced on either side of impact (small red spot) but increases when I walk around for a few minutes. I took a multi-vitamin, later a 80 mlg aspirin (my husband said is good for blood clots), and also applied EVCO for a few hours. I did not find on-line information on vein injury except on varicose veins. Is there anything else I can do? And what symptoms should I be aware of? Thank you for any advice.
