Help Needed for Kitten with Bleeding Paws

Posted by Gina (Illinois) on 10/26/2015

Hello all, My 7 month old sphynx kitten's paws are bleeding! It looks like a burn that scabed up. It is peeling and bleeding. I'm worried it will get infected when he goes into his liter box. Can I use liquid bandaid?

You can try hydrogen peroxide 3% and put the feet into it. Then take turmeric and let kitty step into it. That is a natural antibiotic which is very healing. Do not use band aids.

Keep kitty away from carpets for the while.

Hello Gina!

I would NOT use the liquid bandage - brilliant idea, but not for use on cats as they will lick the product and ingest it and it will break down to very toxic compounds that may harm organs.

I like Om's advice - stepping into turmeric.

One thing to consider; are all 4 paws affected? I know of this happening to a dog, and the culprit was new carpeting. The new carpet off-gasses and these chemicals can cause the skin on the paws to slough off. You may wish to consider any new cleaning products that you are using on the floors, or laundry detergents, and if you did have new carpet installed you may wish to have it shampooed.
