How Can I Prevent Mange in My Dog?

Posted by Tomeka and Darby (Us) on 02/19/2017

How do I keep my dog from getting the mange? My next door neighbor has a corky, pitbull, bullmaster, and several others small dogs in the house. The first 3 dogs are kept outside. My dog stays on the leash. But when I do decide to take him off my neighbor complains. Now his dog comes over here when he gets ready. I can't even play with my dog or rub him because I'm scared me and my children may contract this mess. Help!!

Sincerly, Tomeka and her baby Darby

Tomeka and baby Darby, A couple of natural animal health resources I have recently found on line are DogsNaturally Magazine and Vital Animal News / Will Falconer DVM. I am sure they will have some excellent suggestions on this topic! Wishing you & baby Darby all the best with your pup!

Hello Tomeka,

To avoid your dog catching sarcoptic mange, keep him inside as a house dog - sarcoptic mange is carried by squirrels and wild critters, so if you limit his exposure to wild critters and the areas where they may bed down or toilet, you are stacking the deck to help your dog stay healthy. Also very helpful is bathing your dog frequently, so once a week or more if you think he has been exposed to mange, and in particular use Ted's Mange remedy as a bathing solution. PET your dog please, he wants it just as much as you want to pet him, just practice good hygiene to avoid him catching mange.
