How Long Does Coconut Oil Last in Jar?

Posted by Cemile (Turkey) on 06/09/2017

How can I keep oil longer I bought it in Turkey for my mother.

I had bought 5-6 large jars, 46 ounces I think. Was stocking up, my sister asked why, I didn't answer.

It went well for a while, then I moved and didn't use it as often as I used to. So the last two jars went bad after about 4-5 years, my best guesstimate.

I don't think I'd keep it over 5 years. The sweet smell of the coconut will disappear at around that time. Now I buy 1 or 2 and don't stock more than that.

I've used it externally on my lower legs, thought I noticed a huge change, but I could not wrap my head around it. Had not used it consistently, after the 3rd time I was sure it was doing a lot more than moisturizing my skin.

Can't really describe what the changes were, but they were all good and no side effects.

I advise using it, go slowly if you are apprehensive about it, then use it more extensively if it's going well for you.

I used to add 1 tbs to my coffee, then stopped, I will start again tomorrow.

Thank you earthclinic, your site is a treasure trove of information, and I tell everyone I see to use it. I seemed to forget that some people don't have the eyes to see or the ears to hear. In that case, mention it and let it go, perhaps that seed will germinate at a later date.

I had a gallon jug of coconut oil that lasted me almost 10 years but that was "way back when". Got it from some island or another - nothing fancy, just unprocessed coconut oil. I wouldn't buy a gallon these days. I just get the big jar of Amazon brand but I don't use much. Mostly, I just use it to wipe down when I don't have the time - or the gumption - to shower, LOL!

Sometimes I swallow a horse pill-sized blob - if I've been a "bad keto girl" and use a couple of blobs to massage my feet or if I get banged up somehow. I might use 2 jars per year but I just buy it one jar at a time. It's a kitchen staple for a lot of people - like olive oil - but a single hurricane can make a lot of things hard to find.

I worry more about my coffee, lol. I prefer Colombian and they had a serious pest problem not long ago. THAT was not pleasant. But I've spent more than half my life simplifying my "medicine" cabinet so I can easily live without anything "they" might want to ban and I survived without coffee so...

I also had some good effects from coconut oil, initially. I think that whatever's in it sort of reboots the lymphatic system but once it's charged, it seems like it doesn't do much. And I've found that to be the case with a lot of stuff. the only things that never fail to have an affect are hydration and the 3 C's (cayenne, charcoal and clay). And, of course, even if they ban it all, we'd still have urine.
