Husband With Dementia Has Constipation: Will Pumpkin Help?
★★★★★
My husband has Dementia and won't eat what keeps a person regular. I've tried chia seeds but he says they're slimmy, phillium husk makes him gag. I read that canned pumpkin works great for cats and dogs. Would it work as well for a human?
Hi Irene,
If the canned pumpkin doesn't pan out, for simplicity and easy on the taste buds, Magnesium Citrate capsules may be useful to help get things moving.

For constipation, I like to use Triphala. It nourishes while also making BMs much easier and is fine to use long term.

Try Methylene blue for dementia! Good stuff! Get a book on it from Amazon.

Hi Irene,
I'm a 52 year old female that has suffered with constipation since the age of 12. It is chronic and debilitating. I have many remedies you can try and I have tried most all of them including:
1. Magnesium Citrate 330 mg = 79% of the recommended Daily Value and that used to work for me, but no longer does.
2. Magnesium Oxide 400 mg = 100% of the recommended DV and for some people this amount works, but for others like myself I usually need 800 mg to 1200 mg to be effective. Same for Magnesium Hydroxide which is the amount in Milk of Magnesia.
3. Cascara Sagrada (2 capsules usually = 780 mg or sometimes a little less like 700 mg). This option is usually taken before bed and works upon rising in the morning, generally after a cup or 2 of coffee for me. The beauty of this one is there is no cramping and typically no chance whatsoever of diarrhea. It can be used every night and is non-habit forming. It comes from tree bark.
4. Smooth Move is a named brand supplement that comes in both tea and pill form. I personally prefer the pills over the tea as the tea has some form of sweetness (usually a gum from trees and not mentioned on the label to make the tea more tasty). It is made up of Senna Leaf, Ginger & Licorice Root. It is gentle and should be taken on an empty stomach in the morning or late afternoon or before bed. Your choice.
5. Borax (Yes, this is the 20 Mule Team Borax bought in the laundry section that states this is not to be ingested). There is an immense amount of information on this subject and hundreds of testimonials on Earth Clinic. I personally have been using this for about 10 days and has been the BEST thing I have ever tried and wasn't trying it for constipation, but found that it is EXCELLLENT for it as well as burning bladder and burning in general in that region. The reason I have been trying it is to get rid of painful bone and joint pain. I also know it is great for increasing testosterone levels as well as stamina and provides clearer thinking with much less brain fog. This could be a 2 in 1 option to help with your husband's Dementia as well as constipation.
I started with about a half of an 8th of a tsp, so 1/16. I have gone up to an 1/8 of a tsp and back down to 1/16 for now and is working well for me. The recommended amount on Earth Clinic for women is an 1/8 tsp for women in a liter of water spread out throughout the day and 1/4 tsp for men in the same way. Personally, I just put it in my coffee in the morning (I drink about 1/2 a pot). Some people use it in tea.
The last posting I recall from Art (California) on this subject (6/9/2022 listed under Borax - Arthritis) was that after he became pain free of Arthritis he stopped putting his 1/4 tsp in 1 Liter of water and just put a 1/4 tsp in orange juice every morning.
This could truly change your husband's life and could possibly and more than likely cure his dementia. Read the many testimonies and decide for yourself.
Blessings and Prayers,

Mom just had that problem, doc said to give her a 8 oz glass of warm prune juice followed by 8oz glass of warm water. It helped a lot.
