Low IgG and Chronic Bladder Infection - Questions for Art

Posted by Maggie (Toronto) on 10/05/2026

Dear Art, I have been reading a lot about remedies posted by Ted and yourself over the years. I am familiar with your protocol for UTI, I remember it involves grapeseed extract, salt and d mannose. The bacteria showing in the urine has been shifting starting from streptococcus, then e coli, now enterococcus faecilis.

I am a 46 years old female going through peri menopause and have had a bladder infection for the last 5 months that I am having a hard time to clear. My bladder is irritated now and I have to be very careful regarding what I eat. In addition I have low IGG levels as well. My cd57 is also low. As far as I know I don't have Lyme. I also experience insomnia and anxiety. I would really appreciate your input on where to start to help my immune system and get rid of this infection. Thank you so much.

Hi Maggie,

Just to be clear, that remedy you referenced, used Grapefruit Seed Extract, not Grape Seed Extract.

You didn't say if you tried the remedy or not. So if you tried it and it didn't help or didn't help enough, you can consider adding AZO, a product available on Amazon and most drugstores, if your doctor approves it. If you haven't tried the remedy yet, it may not be possible to use the grapefruit seed extract (GSE) now because your bladder is now irritated and the GSE can potentially irritate it further once it is irritated.

Warning: A UTI that has been around for 5 months has likely developed significant resistance to antibiotics and if the above does not stop it, it may be a super infection and require a specialty antibiotic to stop it. Your doctor will have to make that determination.

Natural remedies seem to work best when taken at the first signs or symptoms of a UTI and less so after having the infection for 5 months.

The low IgG level is definitely a problem for your immune system to properly fight against this UTI. Your doctor needs to determine the cause of the low IgG level to help stave off future infections.

Thank you Art. It's a low grade infection for which antibiotics have not worked. I am planning on trying the GSE next. Salt water seems to help. My bladder is actually being very reasonable with supplements so I think I can try this.

Are you aware of any way to boost the immune system? Unfortunately the doctors are not much help. I was reading Ted's archives and he seemed to think mycoplasma could be a reason ... And heavy metals as well on why infections don't clear. I am speculating of course but what could cause a low immunity? The doctors ran tests and of course nothing was found. And could I try lysine and threonine to help my immune system? Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thank you so much for your help

Hi Maggie,

The supplements I am aware of don't boost the immune system, but rather help the immune system to operate closer to how it is meant to operate. Several that come to mind quickly are vitamin D, Zinc, magnesium glycinate selenium and melatonin. There are others, but these ones have significant studies that tend to support their usage for the support of your immune system.

The combination of vitamin D / VDR , melatonin, magnesium glycinate, selenium and zinc also have potential synergy.

Your doctor needs to approve your usage of these supplements for your safety and to be sure they will be compatible with any medications you are taking.

Please keep us updated on your progress.
