Menopausal Insomnia - Please Help!

Posted by Wendy (Phoenix, Az) on 04/10/2025

I have MTHFR gene mutation and have suffered from intense insomnia since I was 26 years old ans contracted the Epstein Barre Virus while being on my honeymoon in St. Lucia. I'm talking unable to sleep for months at a time and thrn even once getting sleep, it's an hour or two and thrn right back to a couple months with 0 sleep. I went to sleep

Specialists, cardiologists, neurologists, naturalpathic docs, massage therapists, chiropractors, endocrinologists, etc. etc. to try to find out what was wrong and why I couldn't sleep. I did sleep studies, and even did neurotransmitter testing with an out of state company and tried ALL kinds of supplements and allopathic medications to get relief. The only time I could sleep at all normally for the past 19 years, is for the first 2-3 months after having a baby, which I had four of them, so those where the only glorious 12 months total I've had since I was 26 as far as sleep was concerned. In the meantime, about 8 years ago I got

On HRT and began taking progesterone capsules along with a micro dose of seroquel and those together had bought me about 4 hours sleep total 85% of the time. The other 15% od the time I either sleep less or not at all.

Well, in January of this year, I stopped having periods altogether and I can't sleep! Even with my HRT & seroquel combo. I've been up for months straight again with no relief and sleep deprivation is setting in. May need help!!!! PLEASE! I found out 3 years or so ago that I have the MTHFR gene mutation (homozygous), along with a few other gene mutations, and I'm wondering:

1) is this all related to my genetic mutations?

2) I know others going through menopause complain of insomnia but not

Sleeping for 2-3 months at a time with only a couple of maybe 2-3 hours sleep sprinkled in there is much more excessive than what my doctors (allopathic and natualpathic) say they see in their patients who are menopausal and I've been on all kinds of forums and seems I am a VERY UNHEARD OF EXTRME

CASE.

3) Why can't I fall asleep to begin with?

4) WHAT SUGGESTIONS DO YOU HAVE FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO GET SLEEP THAT DONT INVOLVE ME PUMPING MYSELF WITH A TON OF TOXIC ALLOPATHIC PILLS THAT DON'T WORK ANYWAY?

I am a sleep deprived mom of four kids and desperately need my sleep to g T through my busy, chaotic days.

Please, please help! Anyone else ever gone through this? What worked for you?

Hi Wendy. I have had good luck focusing on restoring the circadian rhythm. There is a book about it, The Circadian Code. Lots of sun during the day, no blue light at night. As little light at night as possible. I changed all my light bulbs back to incandescent! LEDs are awful for health and for sleep.

Good luck! (hug)

You need to provide more details. Sorry, you'd be dead already if you were not sleeping at all.

1. Problems with falling asleep?
2. Problems with staying asleep?

3. Jerk awake several times at night?
4. Early awakening, can't fall back to sleep? What time?

5. How do you feel when you wake up several times at night? I mean, symptomatic (any symptoms) or no symptoms

6. Do you sleep in the same bed, in the same house all the time?

7. How do you sleep in other places? Cities, hotels, vacations, friends houses?
8. Do you have electronic devices in your bedroom? near you bed? Wi-Fi?
9. What about neighbours? Do you share bedroom walls with your neighbours?
10. What is your sleep index if you had a sleep study?

11. What MTHFR polymorphisms do you have? Both copies?

12. Do you get daily sun exposure via your retina? Read this:

TIME #17: MELATONIN AND INSULIN ARE SOLAR METRONOME https://jackkruse.com/time-17-melatonin-insulin-solar-metronomes/

13. Did you ever sleep in a tent on a ground while campling? How was it?

I'd start with assessing your environment. Some people are very sensitive to environmental hazards - man made EMF, dirty electricity, radars, telecom antennas, 5G antennas, smart meters etc. Find a specialist in your area from Geovital.com

Once your houses is evaluated for environmental hazards, you can start looking into your body and mind imbalances. Keep in mind there is no magic pill, and everyone is different.

There is definitely a reason why you can't sleep. More pills won't help you.
