Mold Is Growing In My Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar

Posted by Jane (Nelson, Nz) on 04/25/2015

Hi, I am a big fan of apple cider vinegar and have been making it at home for the last few years. I always juice my own organic apples and put the juice in open topped jars to ferment.

This year all the vinegar is forming a blue & white mould on the surface, something I don't recall seeing before. This mould developed early on, just a few days after juicing. Is my vinegar ruined? Or is it salvageable if I let it continue to ferment?

This has happened to me too! I think its because I forgot to make sure the apples were under the surface of the liquid! Did u find an answer? I'm searching for the answer too!

You get mold when brewing ACV if the temperature is too cold. Try to put the batch in your kitchen, close to the refrigerator and completely cover with a cheese cloth to avoid the sun light.if you leave in a place with cold temperatures, try to brew it in spring or summer.
