Need Help for Tense Muscle Issues

Muscle issues! Need your thoughts and guidance!

64 YO female in decent physical shape with no major underlying health issues. All my life I have suffered with tension in my muscles all over my body. So tense that the muscles pull my spine and neck out of alignment. I eat pretty clean and take ample magnesium, etc. Just cannot figure out why I am always so tense. I can go to bed with no pain or tension and wake up so tense with my neck and jaw pulled out of whack Any ideas? Thank you!

Hi Phoebe,

Normally you would look at magnesium, calcium and potassium imbalances/deficiencies or dehydration as causes for muscle tension and cramping, but from what you said, these are likely fine. This seems to occur while you are sleeping. Some common causes for significant increase in muscle tension while sleeping could be stress, anxiety, teeth grinding/bruxism, sleeping position, poor daytime posture, nerve compression or disc degeneration in the spine.

There can be other causes such as fibromyalgia, sleep apnea, arthritis, TMJ disorder, RLS or various muscle diseases etc.

There are also medications that can potentially cause this.

You would be the best judge of whether any of the above might be responsible.

As you can see, trying to remedy this without an actual diagnosis could take a long time.

Hi Phoebe - that used to happen to me a lot and it's usually because of the fused discs I have in my neck (congenital). Going to the chiropractor made all the difference for me. I'm a big magnesium fan as well, and occasionally use mag lotion on my neck and forehead with real bad headaches...my first choice would always be the chiropractor. You can also look into Cranial Facial Release (CFR), there are chiros that do it, but there are also folks who specialize in it and it's all they do. Good luck!

If you "eat pretty clean", why are you taking supplements?

Hi again! I've just discovered Dr. Ardis nicotine videos on yt and ordered some nicotine patches to see if they will produce any changes in things I'm probably simply attributing to aging. Particularly with regard to less strength in my legs that I assumed was just one of those aging things.

I am a smoker and 66 yrs, I'm just not a heavy smoker and since using the ointment, I often have a feeling I want another cigarette but the idea of the smoke just seems "too much", too soon and yucky. Probably due to the complete tissue and bone ointment, I don't know, but I DO know I "want" something and a cigarette is the first thing that comes to mind.

The thing is cigarettes are only 1mg of nicotine per and that seems like an awful lot of smoke for just 1mg of nicotine so...smoking just half at a time and not being a heavy smoker, it may simply not be enough.

Apparently, it works for all kinds of things, some of which are strength and motor function, nerve health, brain fog and other aging-related things so...I'll see if I suddenly feel 20 years younger or notice any other changes!! At any rate, I'm pretty sure I'm not getting enough - smoking just half of one at a time and not often enough to get a proper dose of the stuff. I don't FEEL particularly old but ya never know! Maybe I'm just not noticing!

You didn't answer my question but now see it may have seemed like some sort of criticism but it wasn't. I find that what one speaks of is usually relevant, even when one doesn't know why one speaks of it.
