My Thumb Is Huge And Swollen

hello I am new to earthclinic, so hello all.
last week my thumb started hurting and the last 3 days has become huge and swollen, I had to head to a & e department lastnight as it was cartoon big. my diet is proper good, the doctors who saw me gave me flucloxacillin (to be taken 4 times a day 500mg) I have taken 2 and feel ill, I hate taking there stuff please advise there must be a different cure than there rubbish!
