Seeking Natural Cures for Bladder Cancer in 7 Year Old Shetland Sheepdog

Posted by Tammy (Deforest, Wisconsin) on 01/19/2016

I am writing this evening on behalf of my 7 year old Shetland Sheepdog. Last night he was diagnosed with a cancerous mass in his bladder. I am beyond devastated. The options given were a risky surgery and chemo. The prognosis with these options was 6 months to a year with probable reoccurence...not really great options at all in my book. I am not willing to put him through all of that just because the selfish side of me wants him by my side. He has been and is a wonderful dog and I think it would hurt me more to see him suffer needlessly.

I picked through the site but now have more questions than answers. Carny is 30 lbs. and I don't even know where to start.

I have read a little about cleaning up his diet, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, goat's milk (a rescue friend's suggestion), and my vet friend from Oregon has even suggested NSAID's seem to be having some affect in dogs with bladder or mammary cancer.

First, how would I clean up his diet? I am not sure what would be best to feed him. I've read that baby food (meats primarily) are a good place to start. Also with any of the other protocols out there, how do I figure out how much to give and how often (ACV, baking soda, goat's milk....)? Is there such a thing as too much of a good thing meaning, only try one of the above or is it better to hit this from every angle?

I am willing to do whatever it takes to give him a better quality of life in the interim with the goal of giving him a longer, but still happy life. Any suggestions and specific direction would be so very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and kind consideration.

If you look up "The Truth About Cancer" there were testimonies re bladder cancer with Frankincense. If me, I would contact an experienced person about essential oils which you could find may be in the blog. There is also an article on Frankincense.

With humans, it has been eating several lemons for a few days which did it, but in your dog's case I would use ESSIAC and please use the site on EC under Pets and Remedies particularly on Essiac. Also use 3% hydrogen perox. in one liter of water. And look at the dog's diet.

All the best for the two of you. Namaste Om

I am going through the same thing with my pug Eli. I didn't have the money to do a ultrasound but his bladder is definitely deteriorating. The Vet says his bladder has calcium build up in the walls of his bladder>He has a neurological problem in his spine that is causing weakness in his back legs and incontinence and UTI's, some that are resistant it seems every other week. He is in diapers and was on Prednisone since September and two different bladder medications Bethanacol and Phenoxybenzomene to help empty his bladder. We switched him to dexamethasone recently when we thought the Prednisone wasnt doing it anymore and it seemd to help but how long can he stay on that without complications? I have had to have him catheterized several times He has blood and mucus sometimes along with the specks of calcium that block his ureter >It is getting very costly but I don't have the heart to put him down yet as he is still his HAPPY self. He is only 11 and weighs 26 lbs now (he was 30) He still can walk and even goes down the steps himself on good days but I watch so he doesn't get weak and fall.

I am trying to find something to help dissolve calcium! I have known that Apple Cider Vinegar will do it. I am looking for anyone that has other suggestion.

I have taken him off of his OLD dog food (Pedigree) and switched to Evangers grain free but giving him lots of cabbage and kale and carrots for snacks. I'm going to give him some liver for iron for the bleeding and add some canned pumpkin to his diet to make sure he doesn't get constipated. Im going to give him the Apple cider vinegar for the calcium build up with some cottage cheese and honey. At this point it is worth a try.

Like you I am trying to just stretch out his days and give him lots of love. I keep praying on him for a miracle but know I will have to face that day when I know he can't go on anymore. Until then I keep Trying!
