Seeking Natural Remedies From Mama For Weight Loss in Child

Posted by Nadiya Butool (Mumbai, India) on 04/18/2017

Dear Mama to Many,

How are you? Heard so much about you by my cousin Mehnaaz, she loves you very much.

My daughter is of 9.5yrs old but weights 44kgs. Please suggest some proper and easy diet or home remedy which can help me to reduce her weight in these summer vacations.

Waiting for your reply,

Thanks a lot.

Dear Nadiya,

Is your daughter tall also?

Here are some things I would try for a child that seemed to be gaining too quickly:

Plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Less sugar, processed foods and snacky foods.

A variety of whole foods, whole grains.

Good fats like coconut oil and olive oil.

Moderate amounts of dairy and meat products. (Hormone levels in animal products can affect people, and even organic meats contain hormones.)

Plenty of water, not much juice.

1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water with meals, if she doesn't mind it.

1 teaspoon of blackstrap molasses in water about 20 minutes before meals, to reduce the appetite some and provide nutrients.

Fun exercise - soccer, frisbee, swimming, walking with the family.

Less tv or video games.

I would not really talk about "trying to lose weight" or being on a diet. You want her to have healthy eating and exercise habits for life, and to be happy with who she is and how she is made. Some will end up thinner and some fatter and that is okay. I have quite a variety in sizes among my own children and each are unique and beautiful, and all have the same diet and are all pretty active - there is just a lot of variety in people, and helping our children to know they are beautiful and special as they are is important.

I hope that you and your daughter have a fun and healthy summer!

Let me know how it goes, and please tell Mehnaaz hello for me!
