Seeking Remedies to Lower High Platelet Count from Essential Thrombocythemi

Posted by Sallyaa (Nebraska) on 07/28/2015

My husband was diagnosed with ET (Essential Thrombocythemia). We are praying that we can find a natural alternative to the drug they want him to take for it (Hydroxurea). Has anyone had any success with lowering blood platelet counts naturally? Also I have been wondering if doing a liver cleanse might help? Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to provide for us.

Whole body (which would include liver & blood) cleanse will be important.

There are numerous cleanses but simply start with the Beet cleanse posted here https://www.earthclinic.com/remedies/mini-beet-protocol.html

I also have ET. I drink pomegranate 1 oz daily. This seems to keep my platelets at a lower count, in the 400's to 500's. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago. Prayer helps as well.

My husband has reactive thrombocytosis caused by a splenectomy 8 years ago. His platelet count has been a little high since then until 2 years ago when the platelet count went very high. He was prescribed Hydroxyurea, 500mg 2xday. This med has helped his platelets to stay in the 700's range but at a cost. He was diagnosed with dementia in 2011. He was not doing badly until he started the Hydroxyurea.

Since then, he has really gone downhill not only with his memory but also his mood. His anger usually starts right after I give him the Hydroxyurea. I am desperate to find a natural solution. I've read about food-grade hydrogen peroxide and wonder if anyone has tried that or if there might be something that could help him to keep his platelets down without having to take the Hydroxyurea.

Thank-you for advice.

Hi Martha. I just ordered some Tulsi Holy Basil from Organic India to help me with my mood. I felt immediate relaxation, much like I get from Epsom salts baths. I only took one and felt great relief from tension and anxiety. Soon after, I ate some warm soup and it seemed to intensify the effects. This morning I took 2 to see if I could tolerate. I soon fell asleep and took a 2 hour nap. I guess 1 is my limit. The bottle says serving size 3. There are other positive benefits from Tulsi Holy Basil. Of course, I would research this herb before administering as it may interfere with his condition or medication. I hope this benefits you or maybe even other readers.

Prayers for you and your husband!

Hi Martha, the first thing that came up was raw garlic, other suggestions gingko baloba, ginseng, pomegranate, Omega 3s, see http://m.newhealthadvisor.com/How-to-Lower-Platelet-Count.html

Epsom salts baths might help with the quick out of place anger, also check out EC's anger pages.

I am wondering if aspirin could be used to bring down platelets. It is an anti-platelet. I have no idea about the dosages or if it would bring them down enough. Plus aspirin doesn't agree with everyone. I do take aspirin some for its antiviral and anti inflammatory properties sometimes.. And I definitely have more bruising when I take it because of its anti platelet effect.

Lumbrokinase (Boluoke) or Nattokinase.
