One Week Old Kitten In Severe Pain From Constipation

Posted by Linda (Olivehurst, CA) on 03/21/2015

I have a 1 week old kitten. He is really having a hard time with bowel movements. He cannot go at all for the last day and a half. He hasn't had a soft bowel movement at all, they have all been hard. I gave him a little karo syrup, it didn't help. Do you have any ideas, poor thing is screaming in pain. He did not get the first mother's milk.

Linda, one suggestion is half a tsp. of milk of magnesia, more or less and/or coconut oil. Or any healthy oil and read up on ailments/remedies on EC.

Hey Linda!

Did I read this right - your kitten is ONE WEEK old?

A week old baby cannot move their bowels on their own. Turn on the tap in the bathroom sink and run until it is lukewarm, and then rinse your kitten's rear under the warm water; this will stimulate the bowels and your kitten will pee and poop. You could also use a cotton ball dipped in warm water, but in my experience it is more effective to run their bottoms under a warm tap and hold them there until they are empty.
