Can I Use Oregano Oil on Dog's Fungal and Wax Ear Infection?

Posted by Debbie (Perth, Western Australia) on 05/02/2017

My dog has had reoccurring ear fungal infections for the past 7 years. She has been on a whole host of antibiotics, put under for our vet to flush her ears, daily cleaning with saline. I have heard of and read about the use of Wild Oil of Oregano being used in the human ear to clear fungal infections, and I would like to know if this could be used in a dogs ears as well. I also suspect she has some wax build up, so would ooo soften this? If anyone has used this with success on the dogs fungal/waxy ear infections could you please let me know the dosage ratio of ooo/olive oil.

Oregano oil would burn, as far as I know. Others can certainly add their comments about whether or not oregano oil is effective. I'd suggest searching this earthclinic site for "Arcane". It's an inexpensive home-made remedy for ear infections due to yeast, bacteria & fungus. It really worked for my dog.

Hey Debbie,

I peeked around the web and also saw that orgeganol can be used for ear infections but the sites all cautioned to NOT use it inside the ear canal, but to rub it on the outside of the ear and to dilute 50/50 - or more for children. I DITTO the suggestion for the Arcane forumla, and also suggest considering a Neem & mullein oil that is already prepared and can be purchased at most health food type stores. Also your basic garlic infused olive oil is something to consider. The biggest question I have is *why* this is a chronic issue for your dog. Consider upgrading diet to RAW or grain free kibble if you have not done so already. Consider oreganol dosed orally, as well as alkalizing the water and Ted's Borax protocol for dogs. A chronic yeast issue needs to be cured from the inside out.

Antibiotics will feed the yeast, so, are a no no.

Half water/half WHITE vinegar for cleaning, before even looking at anything else.

And, look at the diet. This could be adding to the problem. So, you will end up going round in circles, if you don't address that.

There are some solutions for dog's ears on Amazon that say you can indeed put it down the ears and so I would try those however if your dog is having repeat infections than consider working on her gut because that's where it starts. After 7 years of trying everything but Oil of Oregano I tried a product called Glacier Peeks. They have lots of other great products. You put it in their food and it kills off the bad stuff in the gut that cause the infections in the ear in the first place.

If you mean oregano essential oil, then absolutely not.
