Baking Soda Sinus Cleanse | Mother Earth News.

I know aluminum foil helps with ice. Alum is supposed to be aluminum and you have to be careful with that it shrinks openings. Baking soda is amazing for burns and for nutralizing. The sinus cavities are above the teeth on the top and when you brush with stuff it affects sinus cavities. Just some thoughts...no real experience.... Blessings, charity

If you're still having trouble -

You're probably hyperventilating - perfectly normal but probably exaggerated due to the addition of the burning to the fear.

Breathe in, normally, for a one count, out for a one count and then hold your breath for a three count. Do that a few times, then breathe in, out and hold for a 5 count until you get your wits about you.

If you can't do it, breathe into a paper bag for a little bit. Once you get control of your mind and your breathing, flush your sinuses with an ORDINARY sinus rinse - I.e. a normal, non-iodized salt water solution.

When you hyperventilate, you deprive cells of oxygen - including brain cells - because the CO2 required to break the blood oxygen bond to release the oxygen from the blood TO the cells is generated during a natural gap in your breathing - the pause you experience in calm, light, ordinary breathing. The first sign of hyperventilation is repeating thoughts due to reduced oxygen to the brain cells. It's no big deal. In the wild, it would simply put your thoughts into a loop so that you don't get distracted by something shiny and forget you're running for your life.

It might be uncomfortable for a little while. You'll want to keep the sinus passages moist until they regain their balance. Don't let them dry out. Don't use too much salt and if you think about stopping because it's boring or too much trouble or whatever, add a couple drops of veg glycerin to a QUART of your salt water rinse solution and make the water a bit cooler than you would normally use for a nasal rinse. 2 DROPS of glycerin to a whole QUART of water. No more than that. That will help keep the tissue moist while things calm down. Sleep with a humidifier at night. If you want, and you have fresh, disposable face masks, you can moisten one with some watered down nasal rinse solution and put it on if things get too dry - instead of doing the whole nasal irrigation, once you're good and rinsed. But do the rinsing, first.

I would definitely keep it simple and not start adding stuff on top of the OO. Stick to the salt water and humidifier. If your nose gets dry, put a tiny bit of coconut oil on the end of your finger and smear it around and just barely inside your nostrils. No deeper.

The GOOD news is that when the discomfort is over, you'll probably feel like you've done an entire cleanse!
