Seeking postpartum appendicitis advice

Hi,

My wife is recently postpartum and is having appendicitis signs. Painful on rebound, lower right abdomen. Moderate fever not explained by anything else. Though not in a tremendous amount of pain. I had it so am very familiar with what it's like.

One of our big concerns is if she has an appendectomy, being able to breast feed our baby. Unfortunately, pumping is nearly impossible for it. Also recovery sounds awful to have postpartum + laproscopic (assuming laproscopic is possible.)

If there's any chance of getting through this without surgery now, so it could happen in a year or two, that would be wonderful.

One thing that I realized is that she lays on her left side all of the time. Doesn't that mean that the appendix can't empty at all?

Now 90% of what I read, even on natural remedy websites, is to just go in and have it pulled. I do know when I went in for mine, they said antibioitics would probably take care of it, but I'd likely have it again. -- so if antibiotics might work, it sounds way easier. If she wasn't recently postpartum, this would be different.

There are some reports of people having luck with drinking fenugreek water. The book "Where there is no doctor" just says to get medical help, which is discouraging. There is the one report about leaning off the edge of the bed, stomach down.

It does seem like positioning could have an impact. I don't want to roll the dice at all, but am wondering if she needs to stop laying on her left side asap and if it's worth having her try to lean off the bed? If fever comes down and the rebound pain is gone, I guess we might be in the clear. Obviously if it ruptures, we're in a way worse situation.

The whole thing is more confusing by having an expanded belly with more room -- I could see that working for us or against us.

Thank you

Hello!

I hope by now your wife is feeling much better. If she is still having pain, I would get it checked out by a doctor! It could be something related to having given birth and not an appendicitis at all. I am especially concerned because she has had fever.
