Prediabetes Help Requested

Posted by Cecilia (Liège, Belgium) on 11/23/2025

I suffer pre- diabetis ( résistance à l'insuline). I took Metformine a des weeks and had to stop it : unbearable. Now, from today I use gemmotherapy : Juniper and Rosemary. I'm horrified to see rolls of fat ( or water) on my belly and cellulites on my legs. Before that bad expérience, I was thin. I'm desperate. What can I do? My doctor says " Let's wait". I'm 79.

Hi Cecilia,

You might consider talking to your doctor about using Berberine for your prediabetes. The following meta analysis of multiple human studies confirms the efficacy of Berberine in human diabetics :

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9709280/#:~:text=Results: Thirty-seven studies involving, RecordID=292975, identifier CRD42021292975.

Here are two relevant quotes from the meta analysis :

' Berberine has a glucose-lowering effect, which is related to the baseline FPG and HbA1c levels of patients. Treatment with berberine may be safe since it does not increase the incidence of total adverse events and the risk of hypoglycemia. '

' Thirty-seven studies involving 3, 048 patients were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed that berberine could reduce FPG (WMD = -0.82 mmol/L, 95% CI (-0.95, -0.70)), HbA1c (WMD = -0.63%, 95% CI (-0.72, -0.53)), and 2hPBG (WMD = -1.16 mmol/L, 95% CI (-1.36, -0.96)), with all results being statistically significant. Subgroup analyses revealed that the glucose-lowering effect of berberine was associated with baseline mean FPG and HbA1c in type 2 diabetes. In addition, berberine alone or in combination with oral hypoglycemic agents (OHAs) in the treatment of T2DM did not significantly increase the incidence of total adverse events (RR = 0.73, 95% CI (0.55, 0.97), p = 0.03) and the risk of hypoglycemia (RR = 0.48, 95% CI (0.21, 1.08), p = 0.08).'

Since diabetes can be a life threatening disease, it is imperative that you get your doctor's approval and supervision in order to use berberine for your diabetes.

Intermittent fasting, Celilia! I went from A1c 5.9 to 5.7 in 12 months. I plant to keep going with it until I am way in the normal range. And it will help with the edema as well, plus you'll lose weight. Costs nothing. :-)

Hi Vera, the best way to lower your blood glucose readings is to lesson the amount of carbohydrates you eat. Cut out cakes, biscuits, sweets, etc, and keep the amount of carbohydrates to below 50 grams per day. It works, by doing this I lowered my blood glucose levels down to 47. The Keto diet is the best plan to follow for this. Look on line and you will find lots of guidelines on how to follow this diet. Best of luck!
