Prepper Survival Medicines and Products?

Posted by Robert Henry (Ten Mile, Tn) on 01/03/2016

HI U OLE PATOOTS DOING, , , , , , , , , , , , , , been siphering and thats trouble, because that makes most folks heads hurt. They ain't use to independent, free, thinking.

This is a prepper survival question. Let's just say that the ship hits the sand and money is of no value and times are violent and you have to take care of your family's health without the help of EC or our Medical folks. What products would you want to have available or to grow in the long run?

I know Momma, Timh , Bill, Ted, and the Senator will have a page full. I am serious in this request and would appreciate that all participate. When these solutions come in, I suggest all put them in hard copy. I truly believe we are at this point. Life is just fixing to get very interesting. I don't have to raise a garden or orchards. I do it for our health and our survival.

Thank you for your input. ====ORH===

ORH,

I would definitely want a colloidal silver generator and the related supplies to make quality CS or a good supply of high parts per million CS concentrate which has a fairly long shelf life if made properly.

Why CS? It is a proven antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial, and potential antiparasitic. It can also be used to treat questionable water in a pinch. It is also effective against food poisoning which will become very prevalent at the time. It is relatively easy to make, is likely to be able to be used by many people without bad side effects. It can be used on cuts, burns, sunburns, scrapes, infections and will speed healing. Can be effective against MRSA and similar bad players. It is effective against colds, flu, pneumonia just to name a few big ones.

It is relatively cheap, but like many other things will not be available under the conditions you are describing so having the raw materials "in stock" or concentrated solution is required.

There are many things that can be put on your "list" and to me, CS should be very high on that list because this is only a partial explanation of what CS can do.

HI U ART, , , , , , , , , , , , yeah, I have one of those but have never used it. You probably hit the top item.

Read a piece by an MD and he recommended needle and thread to sew up wounds. Have seen videos of hog hunters that do that to themselves, but I'd have to have a strong tonic before hand.

The more I read, the intelligent folks say the we got our come uppance coming. Latest article tells me to get a dog. A Rat Terrier, so he can be your alarmist as well as run your food up a tree.

Life is just before becoming very interesting.

Dear ORH,

Years ago I bought some special needles and suture thread from a medical supply place since you never know when you may have an emergency you have to handle yourself. But I agree, I can't imagine suturing myself or a loved one unless there were some pain relief on board. I do know a guy who has sutured himself a couple of times.

The good news is that there are herbs you can mix together to help a wound close and heal. We have done it a few times. The herbs also help some with pain. We have found that scarring is less. Cayenne pepper also works to stop bleeding and some use it instead of stitches, although this method can have side effects.

I will try and get that recipe in my list. I am working on my list, as you requested!

ORH,

It's gotta be pretty high up on the list. Under the situation you describe, folks aren't going to be able to just run out to the local Walgreens or CVS and pick up their prescription meds, so something that can potentially take the place of common prescriptions like antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals and topical antibacterials should be very useful.

If you believe this "event" is just around the corner, it may be time to take that unit out of mothballs and brush up on how to make quality CS as well as highly concentrated forms that have a shelf life of years. If it isn't made well, it won't have a long shelf life without loosing potency or just plain going bad.

I mentioned there are other potential uses for CS and here is one of them that is being researched in recent years.

Robert Henry wants us to share our ideas for what to keep on hand in emergencies. Here are my ideas:

There are so many wonderful and inexpensive things. Here are some of my favorites. Many can be bought in a local grocery store. Why not put one item on your list each shopping trip and stock up over time? I love that many of these things will keep for a very long time. Once you buy one of the remedies listed, go to the Remedy Pages about it on Earth Clinic and read up and take notes! I won't go into much detail what each is good for, lest I write a book! :)

From your Grocery Store:

Baking Soda - bee stings, alkalizing, heartburn
Salt - poultices, sore throat gargle

From your Pharmacy:

Hydrogen Peroxide - tooth infections, dental health, cleaning wounds
Epsom Salt - can be used internally (just a pinch! ) as a magnesium supplement and will last a long time. Also good for sprains.
Castor Oil - for tumors and growths, eye health, sore muscles.

From the Laundry Aisle:

Borax - for bone spurs, arthritis, hormone regulating

From your Farm and Home Store:

Diatomaceous Earth - great for parasites, fleas, etc.
DMSO

From your Herb/Health Food Store and/or International Grocer:

Turmeric - critical for infections and MRSA
Cayenne Pepper - benefits too numerous to list
Bentonite or French Green Clay
Activated Charocoal Powder

Look online to find a:

Colloidal Silver/Generator
This may be the most expensive thing, but the investment worth its weight in gold. (silver?) You will be able to make gallons and gallons of a wonderful natural medicine for you, your pets and your neighbors!

A couple of great books to have on hand for using what is available around you are:

"Backyard Pharmacy" by Rachel Weaver

"Comfort for the Burned and Wounded" by John Keim

Stitches Substitute for emergencies:

I keep a jar of this mix in my kitchen, and one in each of my son's trucks.

Wound Powder Recipe:

Mix together the following, all herbs should be in powder form:

1 part Plantain leaf
1 part Comfrey root
1/8 Myrrh gum
1 part Slippery Elm bark
Oregon Grape root

Herbalist Lalitha Thomas, in her book, Ten Essential Herbs uses this simple formula:

Equal parts of Slippery Elm and Goldenseal Root (or Barberry Powder)

After a wound is cleaned well, I generously pack some of the powder into the wound. I apply light pressure and secure with a bandage. It helps the bleeding to stop. The powders mix with blood and form a scab. I do not remove the powder/scab. It naturally comes off when ready. I keep it bandaged if it seems needed, and change that daily, adding more powder if needed. This should NEVER be used on a puncture wound. The comfrey is a cell regenerator and may help the wound to heal from the outside in and not inside out, increasing the risk of infection or improper healing.

We have used this powder many times instead of butterfly strips or stitches. I have taken my children in for stitches for serious cuts (One child had a sledding accident requiring 50 stitches and general anesthesia to clean out the wound. I was so grateful for emergency care then! ) But I suppose if I had no option for emergency care, I would do the best I could with what I had.

A friend of mine uses this stuff a lot for her pets. For pets it is nice because it is safe if they should lick their wounds.

I would add a couple more to Mama to Many's excellent list.

  • Turpentine - invaluable for ridding the body of parasites.
  • Methylene blue. For the immune system and for boosting clarity of thought.
  • Apple cider vinegar. Whose uses are too numerous to mention.

I would also stock up supplements that are necessary for continued well being.

My apologies if I have repeated items that have been posted by others.

Prepper survival or not, I think this is a good checklist for all of us to maintain.

Wish you and your tractor drive the very best of health, ORH.

HI U REBEL, , , , , , , , , , wow, this is wild and strange because in this site they use the sludge from Issiac Tea herbs to cure a skin problem. I am using these 4 herbs as one of my protocols to heal my blood cancer, but I discard the sludge. My bad, and I thank you for your input.

I truly believe that I will be smart at age 85, but so far it has eluted me regardless of my goals.

Great idea to share emergency lists..

I always have pure essential lavender oil in the kitchen which works wonders for burns if the skin isn't broken and also rubbed into bruises- stops hurting in hours. Also effective rubbed into aching joints, especially arthritic big toes, and on minor skin irritations where skin is unbroken.

Propolis throat spray for first signs of sore throat etc and propolis capsules to stop colds etc.

Coconut oil is great for mouth ulcers and also any skin problems, stings etc- very soothing as well as anti viral etc etc..

For sore throat, melt a large teaspoon in your mouth and keep swilling it round your throat for at least 5-10 minutes, you can add some tea tree oil to it which is good for throat infections.also gargling with warm water with some honey and teaspoon of acv..

I spend a lot of time in my garden so always getting stung by bugs and I keep apis mel homeopathic tablets which really reduce the itching and irritation fast. For bites and also plant stings like nettles etc

Magnesium oil spray for sore and tense muscles or general aches etc. Rub it in 2-4 times in a row and it's amazing how quickly the discomfort goes.

Garlic juice to fight colds and flu( see stephen harrod buhner's herbal antivirals & herbal antibiotics - updated version) - you need several fat juicy garlics which you juice and then add some alcohol like vodka etc so it stores well. Keep in dry dark place. Not great tasting but really helps fight the bugs.

Ginger juice - prepare as above and also great for virus infection etc tastes good and you could use sugar instead of alcohol to keep it in store..

Meadowsweet tea / herbal infusion for hiatal hernia problems, 4 times a day. Very soothing and no side effects (unlike licorice tea which I love but sends my blood pressure sky high! ). You can add chamomile flower in the evening to help relaxation and also a slice of lemon and some cinnamon or star anise etc to improve taste. This is a really effective herbal remedy for most digestive discomfort etc.

Anxiety - magnesium helps, especially rubbed into soles of feet..

Arthritis and aches and pains- soak in as hot a bath as you can do safely in which you've dissolved 2-4 large handfuls of food grade epsom salts. ( do check this is safe for you to do, depending on your health issues). Stay in the hot water a minimum of 15 minutes, moving the achy bits like a less and shoulders etc under the water. After 15 you can add some relaxing essential oil and soak a few more minutes. Add hot water as needed to keep temp hot. Then get immediately into a warm bed and keep covered to the chin for 20-30 minutes which should produce lots of sweating( so don't use the bed you intend sleeping in that night! ). This acts like a sauna and really helps release acid crystals, toxins etc from the body. But only do it twice a week. (see curing arthritis by nurse susan hill).

Food poisoning etc charcoal tablets. Take two after each meal but only for two days maximum. This helps bind the toxins together so they're more easily excreted and also stops the trots etc. Be aware it will turn the tongue and the stools black for a day or two, which is normal.

My suggestion is to store organic seeds in your freezer of as many varieties of fruits and vegetables as you can find. Here's a informative article on how to do that and how not inadvertently support companies that sell GMO seeds... http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/the-four-steps-required-to-keep-monsanto-out-of-your-garden/

HI U SUSANNA, , , , , , , , , , my down the Tenn river neighbor. The trick here is to buy heirloom variety seeds so you can save the seeds and they reproduce true. What you have to watch here is that these are open pollinated so you can only raise one variety least you mess up your seeds, such that you have no clue what you have.

I am into this endeavor myself. My dilemma is that I can not find any field corn to feed animals. The only variety I can find is Bantam sweet corn. Don't think that will work in the big picture.

Excited to learn that there are others who think our country is in trouble and trying to figure out how to get out of this mess. Myself, I think we will have to hit bottom to come back. As the little German on Laugh-in said , "VERY INTERESTING".
