Questions About Remedies For Dog With Cancerous Mast Cell Tumor

Posted by Sharlene (Cranbrook Bc Canada) on 07/23/2015

I have an 8 yr. old golden retriever named Cody that has been diagnosed with an aggressive mast cell tumor. Actually Cody has one on the inside of the floppy part of his ear and one now below it. Although he has lots of energy (runs with his brother and me about 5 miles a day), a good appetite and disposition, the size of the tumors are becoming cumbersome, the one in his ear (now about the size of a tennis ball) has ruptured a few times and is continuing to grow and spread. The vet wants to put him down but I can't do that while he still is enjoying his daily life. (I do watch him carefully every day to see if he slipping at all but so far it doesn't appear so).

Now that I have found this site I am trying the tsp of turmeric twice a day with his meals (good dog food now without corn; all natural products); and applying the caster oil twice a day. The biggest problem seems to be keeping it clean and odor free. I think it's some of the tumor actually decaying and / or the frequent bleeding. He is also on anti-biotics and 25mgs of prednisone daily; (vet has agreed to this as a palliative therapy approach).

I believe one of the posts referred to NOT USING caster oil on cancerous tumours.....is this correct? I have been trying to keep it clean with peroxide or Epsom salts dissolved in water (vet recommended) but some of the tissue still has green spots on it and smells. What should I do?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi Sharlene,

Good to hear you are taking matters in your own hands being an advocate for your dog who is still enjoying daily life.

To make turmeric (curcumin) be more bioavailable to your dog, you need to add piperine (Black Pepper). See link How turmeric kills cancer and how to optimize curcumin absorption

The article also says that curcumin is fat-soluble and should be given with a beneficial fat such as coconut oil.

Also see this link where Dr. Karen Becker (vet) discusses turmeric. Dr. Karen Becker Discusses Turmeric

Also turmeric can be applied as a paste to the tumor. Here is a video about using turmeric, lecithin powder and coconut oil. See video here: Dog vs Lump HD (how to destroy cysts & tumours)

1 part certified organic turmeric, 1 part certified organic lecithin, and then start adding certified organic virgin cold-pressed coconut oil in until it gets a good thick consistency.

In the video, it explains he applied it to the tumor for 7 days straight covered with a gauze wrap, then aired it out for 24 hours and reapplied for 2 days covered.

I would be careful using too much hydrogen peroxide on the open tumor. When I took care of my mom's open ulcer on her foot, the doctor said not to use it as it can aggravate. If you put the turmeric paste on it, it has its own anti-bacterial properties plus your dog is also on antibiotics anyway.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Hi there and thankyou for your informative response regarding treatment for the mass cell tumor . I will check out the links and follow through with the procedures available. I have discontinued the peroxide and changed to a anti-bacterial wash from the vet for cleaning as well as spraying on some ionic silver which was also recommended. Although I have been using turmeric bought from the supermarket I will step it up by purchasing perhaps a better grade from the local health food store. I haven't tried the turmeric topically yet but after I check out the links provided I will also try that. Still using the castor oil topically and apart from them getting larger, blacker and smelly I haven't seen any improvement yet after one week twice a day application. (They do bleed somewhat and smell like decaying flesh...ugh) Just wondering if anyone has ever used the 'black ointment' or 'drawing salve' on the tumors as a treatment? I've read about it on a few different sites but am a little leary of it. Thank you once again for information and support.

Can you tell me if this worked for your dog with mast cell tumor. Mine has one on her back leg and I have been trying lots of things, including ip6, chinese herbs, artimenisen, dmso gel along with cooked diet with lots of meat and brocolli and liver and cottage cheese, fish oil and its still growing. I would appreciate knowing if this works. Thank you very much.
