Seeking Remedies For Dog With Fibroadnexal Hamartoma
I have a two year old pitbull mix that developed a small growth on the pad of one of his back legs. The vet recommended a punch biopsy to make sure it was not cancerous. We did the biopsy and were told it was a fibroadnexal Hamartoma - benign non-neoplastic lesion comprised of disorganized collagen, hair follicles and glands. Complete excision is usually curative. At the time, it was small and didn't bother him. Several months later it tripled in size. He limps, licks his foot constantly, and the growth sometimes bleeds. We do cover his foot with a sock so he can't lick it. The vet said now with it being so large he might have to go to a plastic surgeon and might need a skin graft. I love my dog dearly but can't spend thousands of dollars on surgery. This dog was thrown out of a car and bitten by a brown recluse spider as a puppy. As a result, he couldn't walk for several months, had blood transfusions and would drag himself around with one paw. A local rescue group found him and nursed him back to health. I really don't want to put him through anymore than I have to. Just wondering if anyone has tried castor oil on this type of growth or can you recommend something else that might shrink it?
