Seeking Correct Supplements for Infertility and PSOS

Posted by Chico (Athens, Greece) on 11/19/2015

Hello,

I have PCOS and joined today after a few days of reading everything to do with pcos, infertility etc.

I am 35 years old, my pcos is relatively minor (no facial hair, super healthy and slim, no acne) and have had two miscarriages (no specific reason apparently - just happened) and have been trying for a few months to conceive again with difficulty since my periods are usually two weeks late and I have no idea when I am ovulating and if. My partner also has some slow sperm mobility and not great morphology. Our doctor concludes that I am super fertile, all is fine, eggs are fine but that with PCOS will take time and perhaps will even needed to do IUI or IVF if takes too much time. He has told my partner to take better care of his health and he is on supplements to better his sperm.

I have read extensively all your great comments on remedies for pcos, very little here on male fertility and what could boost that but my question is which of all of these is the best for me? Are they all okay to take whilst trying to get pregnant? I presume I cant take them all:

  • chaste tree berry vital
  • iodine (Lugols)
  • b complex
  • kelp
  • spearmint tea
  • green tea
  • progesterone cream
  • vitamin b 12
  • cough expectorant with guaifenesin
  • vitamin b6

And what could he be doing?

Thank you very much in advance for any helpful advice!

Dear Chico,

I have used most of the list you mention pre-pregnancy with no trouble. (Not the green tea, spearmint tea or the cough expectorant but I personally wouldn't see any problem with them either.) Though it is a good idea to add new things one at a time to make sure they suit you, personally.

You might want to research "natural family planning" and learn to take your temperature daily. This will help you to know if and when you ovulate. It will also help you to know when to use progesterone cream. If you use it before ovulation time in your cycle, it can prevent ovulation. If you body is low in progesterone, you my also want to continue using it when pregnant (in the first trimester) to prevent miscarriage. But it would be best to get bloodwork to determine if you are low in progesterone, and then get tested again early in pregnancy to know if you should continue it. I have used progesterone cream to regulate my cycles and used it during my last pregnancy in the first trimester. But it is not something to use for years and years, only for a season to get yourself back in balance.
