How to Prevent a Stroke?

Posted by Hazel (San Jose, Ca) on 01/29/2025 6 posts

I had a brain MRI last month that showed some abnormalities. My doctor initially suspected MS, but today I saw a neurologist who ruled it out. Instead, he said the MRI indicates signs of a past stroke with some cell damage in my brain. What steps should I take to prevent another stroke? What do you advise?

The findings they say “are typical for your age”. Normally abnormal. If u have no symptoms don't worry. There is really nothing u can do and might live to be 100. Don't overload yourself with supplements, they have little importance. Less stress more sun exposure is a must. Invest in a red light therapy panel if u r up north.

Look into nattokinase and serrapeptase. Also DMSO to recover from a stroke. Earth Clinic is a great place to research!

Hi Hazel,

You didn't mention what your symptoms are so I have to go by the fact that your doctor thought it might be MS with associated symptoms of that.

Since your neurologist feels that you have already had a stroke based on an MRI, I will lean in that direction and once you have had a stroke, even a, transient ischemic attack (TIA) or "mini stroke", your chances for another stroke increases significantly as discussed in the Johns Hopkins article on stroke, link below. You didn't mention if the stroke was an ischemic stroke or hemorrhagic stroke, the first being caused by blockage and the later being caused by a ruptured blood vessel. The hemorrhagic stroke results in more fatalities than the ischemic stroke whereas the ischemic stroke is much more common, accounting for 87% of strokes and will be what I am writing about in this reply. :

https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/stroke/3-ways-to-avoid-a-second-stroke#:~:text=Even after surviving a stroke, will suffer a second stroke.

Here is a relevant quote from the article :

' Even after surviving a stroke, you're not out of the woods, since having one makes it a lot more likely that you'll have another. In fact, of the 795, 000 Americans who will have a first stroke this year, 23 percent will suffer a second stroke. '

They mention three suggestions to help prevent a future stroke also.

I can suggest several supplements that also may help with stroke recovery and prevention, but because of the seriousness nature of stroke, your doctor will need to approve them first and monitor you while using them.

The first supplement is Vinpocetine as discussed here :

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7045535/

Here is a relevant quote from the review article :

' VPN recover cognitive functions and spatial memory through inhibition of hippocampal and cortical PDE1 with augmentation of cyclic adenosin monophosphate and cyclic guanosin monophosphate ratio, enhancement of cholinergic neurotransmission, and inhibition of neuronal inflammatory mediators. Therefore, VPN is an effective agent in the management of IS and plays an integral role in the prevention and attenuation of poststroke epilepsy, depression, and cognitive deficit through direct cAMP/cGMP-dependent pathway or indirectly through anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. '

Another supplement worth considering for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) according to this meta analysis is Berberine as discussed here :

https://farmaimpresa.com/en/berberine-in-the-treatment-of-ischemic-stroke/#:~:text=In conclusion, the meta-analysis, therapeutic option for AIS patients.

Here is a relevant quote from the meta analysis :

' A significant finding from the analysis is the positive effect of berberine not only on the reduction of individual markers but also on the overall increase in effectiveness. The combination of berberine with conventional treatment significantly improved overall efficacy, indicating the potential of this combined approach in enhancing clinical outcomes. '

Another useful supplement is Ginkgo Biloba Extract as discussed here :

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10090660/

Here is a relevant quote from the link :

' Conclusion: Over the 24-week period, EGb 761® treatment improved overall cognitive performance among patients with mild to moderate ischemic stroke. '

Next is Melatonin, which I wrote about previously here :

https://www.earthclinic.com/melatonin-for-stroke-recovery-and-prevention.html

You should discuss the above supplements with your neurologist before using any of them to insure they will be safe for you on the medications he prescribes for you.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Please no scaremongering. We all have changes in our brains as we age. And scaremongering is counterproductive. the Norman Doidge book ~The Brain That Changes Itself~ did permanently alter the way I look at human brains, “human nature, and human potential”. My brain scan did show the sings of past mini strokes etc. This is called normal aging. But read the book, u will be very impressed
