Sudden Onset of COPD After Hiking

Posted by daniel (oregon) on 05/08/2022

Hi, I am new to all of this but have found some hope on this site. thank you for that.

I am 61yrs old, and have been pretty healthy all my life. I am a smoker of 40 yrs although not a real heavy smoker. I live in the foothills and go hiking daily with my dog. We hike 2-4 miles in the mountains every day. In January we were up on a snowy mountain and Bullet my dog decides to chase an animal.

Long story short, by the time I find him it is almost dark and I don't have a flashlight. the truck was at least a mile from us so I was hustling to beat the dark huffing and puffing through a wide open mouth.

I am in great shape but it was about 38 degrees and foggy. Before we got to the truck, I start just hacking and coughing so hard I almost threw up. I made it home only to go through 18 days of the worst misery I have ever felt.

I was producing buckets of mucus which seemed to continuously run down my throat and make me gag coughing all night long. I wrestled to sleep even a couple of hours each night for about 5 nights with each night getting worse. It was impossible to sleep at all laying down and so I was forced to sit straight up in a chair to even try to sleep. After the 6th night, I just quit trying. I went 9 nights straight without sleeping after only getting about 5 hours total the previous 6 nights. Needless to say I was a mess.

What had not happened though is I never had the coughing take my breath. On the last night I started having what I now know, and or what they call an exacerbation, it scared the hell out of me. I could not exhale so I couldn't take in new air and felt like I was dead for sure.

My dad took me to the hospital where they diagnosed me with Emphysema, and COPD with severe exacerbations. It is now mid May and I have been back to the ER 8 times since with these attacks being triggered by everything -- hot water, cold air, tree Poland, dust, spices, fragrances, you name it. Each visit to the ER got me 1 to 2 new doctors. They all treated it the same as far as a short regimen of Prednisone and breathing treatments with a nebulizer. They all also added 1 or 2 other prescriptions that were all different from the last. Antibiotics, Pepcid, codeine cough syrup, allergy medicine. melatonin, etc. I got about 30 prescriptions in 5 months.

I have never had a doctor in my life. I had only been to ERs for stitches or antibiotics for infections of cuts, etc. I used only aspirin in my life for headaches or pain. Everything they have thrown at me failed to help me but only were causing several other issues with my health. I hate Prednisone with a passion but came to realize I could not stay out of the hospital without them. I could manage the many exacerbations I was having day and night by April.

Sorry to drag this out but I am at the Question now.

I have read a lot of posts here and reports from a lot of sites trying to figure out what the hell is going on because I felt the first visit to the ER in Jan. could have misdiagnosed my problem because of the symptoms, my age, and the fact that I was a lifelong and present smoker. I can see a busy ER Doctor taking something like that for granted. It took Prednisone and 4 nebulizer treatments over 7 hours for my lungs to clear and be sent home.

I found some evidence that COPD can come on and progress fairly fast in some cases. In all those cases though anyone who is having the number of severe Exacerbations that I'm having are in the final stages and are having a lot of symptoms I just am not having.

Nothing they have given me helps at all without me being on 40mgs of prednisone also. One dry powder inhaler works a little with prednisone.

2 days ago I started nebulizing colloidal silver and taking 2 tablespoons of ACV morning and night. I also had started 4000IU of D3 a week before.

I ran out of Prednisone yesterday and so far I have went all day with absolutely no wheezing or breathing problems. I even felt so good that when the sun came out I went and broke a sweat working the garden. I am scared it is just another false feeling and at any moment I could relapse without Prednisone. I don't want to take it anymore as it is really a bad drug.

Has anybody out there had a similar situation where they are perfectly healthy (feeling anyways) and then get COPD one day out of the blue and then it just cripples you in just a few months?

Is it possible I could have inhaled something running down that mountain in January that an ex-ray did not show. like a mold spore or something that might be stuck in my lungs causing this? By the way, I did Quit smoking at the start of this and don't ever plan on starting again. I can blow up 10 balloons 10 times a day still( with Prednisone) I don't have tiredness I still have a good appetite although all the drugs cause constipation. My worst problems are caused by all the drugs and inhalers as long as I am on Prednisone. It just don't match all descriptions of COPD late stages in people. I have had a cat scan and 6 X-rays on my lungs which all come back "unexpectedly clear" as described by at least 2 of the doctors. The cat scan did show some Emphysema they said in my lower lung.

My last question is, is it possible for a healed past injury to a lung could be seen as Emphysema?

2 yrs ago I wiped out on my dirt bike and nearly impaled my lung with the handlebar. It went right up under my ribs and it hit hard. if it were not for the rubber grip having a know on the end to keep your hand from coming off it would have probably impaled and killed me. in any case, it took 5 minutes before I could take in and exhale more than just a sip of air at a time. I was laid up for a month. I did not go to the hospital as I seldom ever do but what it felt like it did was tear something under the rib lose from the stomach wall. I could feel it move around as I did. I could not lay but on my back and had to roll or get out of bed very slow or the pain would knock me to my knees. I finally forced myself to sleep on my stomach after a couple weeks and a couple of days later it quit moving and began feeling better. I think it reattached to the wall if any of this is possible.

Could a good injury like that appear like smoking damage or something? I'm really probably just hoping for a freak problem that I can Fix because I am to active a person to live restricted like this. If this is my life now then I'm done.

I know this is really long but if anybody stuck with me and can offer any information or similar condition I would appreciate any input? Thank you for all the great information and amazing people that are on this site.

daniel,

Inhaled Colloidal Silver can be quite effective at killing pathogens in the lungs. There are quite a few pathogens which can exacerbate COPD as noted here :

Dear Daniel,

It does sound like it has been a medical whirlwind.

Certainly, there can be misdiagnoses. It doesn't sound like you have seen a pulmonologist? Maybe that would be helpful?

Good job on quitting smoking! That is a great first step.

Definitely keep up the exercise as much as you can. My mother-in-law had COPD for many years and it was worse after she broke her femur and had to stop her daily walks.

Consider mullein tea. It is a wonderful lung healing tea and safe to drink daily. Mullein is one of my favorite herbs.

Please check out this page with mullein tea blend and stories about its use here on earth clinic! I think you will be encouraged.

My family has found that milk kefir and nettle leaf (we used capsules) are helpful for lung issues.

Vitamin C and turmeric would be useful broad spectrum supplements to keep your immune system up and inflammation down.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Hiking isn't going to help you if you continue to smoke, a little smoke will still hurt you over time. I am a retired firefighter of 40+ years and smoke has hurt me with lung issues. And I stopped smoking 20 years ago, only smoked for one year. STOP smoking completely don't fool yourself into thinking a little smoke won't hurt.

daniel,

Once you have completed your course of colloidal silver, You might look into melatonin to significantly reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in your lungs. Inflammation is a driving force in COPD progression and increased inflammation leads to increased oxidative stress. Melatonin has proven quite useful for COPD as shown in many studies by significantly reducing inflammation. Here is a link to a newer study(November 2021) that highlights how melatonin is beneficial for COPD :

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8587536/

Here is an important quote from the study :

>>> ' Our results indicate that melatonin relieves inflammatory response and loss of lung function in COPD, which is associated with decreased PDE4 expression. Therefore, we suggest that melatonin is a putative candidate for the treatment of COPD. ' <<<

Also beneficial for COPD is N Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) :

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8664516/

Here is a relevant quote from the study :

>>> ' NAC could effectively improve the immune status of COPD patients as well as the COPD mouse model by downregulating proinflammation and inflammation cytokines including IL-1β, interferon- (IFN-) γ, tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-) α, and IL-18. It also had the capability to suppress synthesis of IL-18 in macrophage to inhibit the secretion of IFN-γ from natural killer (NK) cells through influencing the inflammasome-related protein in macrophages. Just an FYI to you and anyone else who reads this that NAC was pulled off the market when the FDA reclassified it as a drug. Ridiculous, but true.

this is typical onset for allergy-induced asthma. And yes, it does and can lead into COPD. Hubs is having an attack now.. used everything.. steroids, herbals, antibiotics for sinus infection and hot packs antihistamines... I would not return to that area until I had allergy meds that worked very well.. these can include histamine supports and there are several in the form of essential oils.. Those who use them have awesome results.. these are often inhaled or put on foot up to 2 times a day... research to find what is right for you.

Another thought: I think you completely exhausted yourself during the long hiking day. You probably got sick because the exhaustion affected your immune system. At age 61, it is not like you are 21 or even 31,41, or 51. At age 52 my husband felt like like "the wind had gone from his sail." Found out that had he had low testosterone and needed replacement (Androgel) to feel better/healthier all the way around. You might want to get yourself checked out for this (blood test). Low T affects muscle tone, mood, etc., etc, etc. I would hope your doc would check you out for this along with everything else.

Hello, Daniel. I work in cardiology here in L.A. and am a longtime fan of Earthclinic. I can tell you are shaken.

My best advice is this: find an experienced, smart cardiologist you trust who will run a battery of non invasive exams (specifically a cardiac ultrasound and possibly a treadmill stress test). Those exams include an EKG to test your heart's electrical function and will provide the cardiologist with the necessary info to determine if the issue really is structural/pathological (like COPD, which is an obstruction and can result in bouts of fainting) or electrical (arrythmias) or if it's an allergy or lung-related or in any way connected to a post injury (lung scar tissue, etc).

Prednisone is a steroid that you should not be taking for long — that it's so effective might indicate that there's an inflammatory issue that has to be exposed.

Once you have a clear diagnosis and a plan from your cardiologist, you can decide how to proceed and how Earthclinic's wisdom can be best applied. I would hate to see you find treatments that diminish symptoms but do nothing for the underlying condition. Confirming that your heart and lungs are strong and healthy should be your first priority.

Take care and update us!!

The forest has lots of greens, but there's rotten wood. You probably inhaled mycotoxins and mixed with smoking created the right environment. There is hope in a charcoal poultice, as well as internally. Just don't overdo the carbons. Carbons bind to toxins released by mold.

Please stop smoking.

Hi Daniel,

Wow, what an ordeal!

I can see how the knee jerk diagnosis was COPD/Emphysema with your smoking history, but COPD is not a sudden acute onset?! You most likely do have some obstructive lung disease….but the scenario you described sounds more inflammatory/infections IMHO.

Have you looked into Chlorine Dioxide (CDS). It really is an amazing “Universal Antidote”. Here's the link for info. You can use CDS as an inhalation treatment. There are many, many testimonials where CDS was a complete and total cure.

Best of luck, so glad you stopped smoking? Eat healthy, exercise!!!

I have been dealing with breathing issues for 25 years. I'm 63. Rather than get into my medical history look into N AcetylCeisteine as a mucolytic agent. Basically what happens is that within the epithelial lining of our bronchioles we have these packets that contain secretory granules....I believe these granules are called mucin or Mucinex.....when an allergen enters into your lungs the immune response is to create mucus so that you can expel it. Mucus is created when mycin is released.....it then draws in water and sodium to create mucus. it's suspected that there is too much mucin production and not enough water and sodium, hence you have clogged bronchials.... I'm a bit sketchy on this and will be happy to forward links to support this but at this moment I am not home.

As an aside, there was a wonderful product called MucoMyst which was specifically for cleaning mucus.....active ingredient was N AcetylCeisteine......I take 600:mg 3x daily....

I wish I had something concrete to offer. I just want to suggest - it may be time to find a good doctor - perhaps a pulmonologist, who can become familiar with you and your health issues. I think jumping around to various health providers makes a real diagnosis pretty tough. And congrats on quitting the smokes. You don't mention your age or how long you smoked, but trust a former smoker - it leads to many problems over time.

Hi Daniel...So sorry for this ordeal you're going through. I agree with the other member who advised that you consult a really good pulmonologist. The ER docs are not specialists. They are not lung detectives. You need someone with deep experience in not just the usual, but the unusual cases -- like yours. And you need a good MRI with an experienced radiologist to interpret. Even if you have to get in the car and travel a few hours to, say, a university hospital or medical center, it will be worth the trip. Ask around and do some googling to find reputable doc names. Natural remedies help, of course -- but you need to know what you're dealing with. All the best to you! PS At 61, you're lucky to have a "my dad" around!

Hi Daniel,

I am no doctor and this is by no means a medical diagnosis. My husband is an athlete and he has problems breathing when he gets overheated (which I know is not your situation), however, maybe your extraneous run down the mountain caused exercise-induced asthma, which happened to my husband when doing an iron-man 15 years ago, and coupled with the smoking may have helped the effects to linger.

Also, since you are a smoker, there is probably lung damage and my recommendation would be to look into things that reduce webbing or mucous in our air system like DMS, colloidal silver, aspirin, apple cider vinegar, melatonin, etc. Look for the remedies that mirror COVID and pneumonia.

Last is the pain from your rib injury. I tried pushing a very heavy pot one time and did damage to my upper chest near the heart area. I can feel scar tissue in there, but I never knew I hurt it that bad. I had the onset of costochondritis, which mimicked a heart-attack pain. I had to slowly roll over when sleeping, bending, or turning because moving a certain way would trigger sharp pain. You may want to read more into it to see if that's what you have.

Best of luck and I hope you have a quick recover from all your ailments. This site is excellent - keep searching!

I have had cause to research decongestants, Musinex and generics.

I ordered a " Tussin" by GOOD SENSE,

Non-drowsy Expectorant (Guaifenesin)

200mg

Single main ingredient is Guaifenesin.

It helped me breathe easier with productive coughs.

I was a bronchitis-prone young person and a respiratory nurse did a trick on me that helped me get a breath and start control of the cough fit. You sit with back against chair. Place ball of your thumb on the end of your sternum, in the indent. Press hard, hurt yourself and breathe through it. Mullein tincture/drops if you are not a tea guy. Lobelia tincture used to be in non-smoking aids until the FDA stuck nose in. It connects with nicotine receptors in our systems. It made it very easy for this lifer smoker, 65 soon as to quit 3 yrs ago. Should increase your comfort.Do your homework, research. It is also an emetic, will make you puke, fast, over and done, if you do too many drops.Back down, find what works for you. It is included in many natural breathing aids with its friend Mullein.

Everything is on Amazon, natch...

Be well,

Dear Daniel:

Same exact thing happened to me two months ago. Sitting on the back porch watching the Canada Truck Convoy, the temperature dropped to about 45. Being out there for 4 hours, I woke up the next day with the same exact symptoms you suffered. I was coughing so hard for two weeks I had blood coming out of both ears and the mucus almost suffocated me. I just could not get rid of it. My husband got me 4 bottles of Nyquil and Dayquil which helped for about 10 minutes.

I had to sleep sitting up, couldn't eat, my ears plugged, nose plugged up, drank a lot of Bigelow Orange Spice Tea which helped quite a bit, but only for a day. The phlegm almost suffocated me.

I called my doctor and cancelled my annual checkup because I had lost 15 pounds in two weeks. Well, I should have called sooner.

Being a holistic doctor, they were swamped with allergies and very sick people. The office told me to go to Publix and get a liquid herb called Echinaforce. I was too weak to go and so I ordered it from Amazon. There are many varieties, but I went for the most expensive which is grown in Switzerland and shipped from Greece. It took 4 days during which time I did not get better.

When it arrived the instructions from the doctors office were to take 20 drops in water 3 times daily for 2 to 4 days before eating. It worked after one dose. I also gave it to my husband for his smokers cough. It stopped it immediately. Echinacaforce is made from coneflower and I figured being grown in Switzerland, the air would be cleaner.

We have been taking a dose or two a week due to the high pollen here. It is a miracle.

Here is what I purchased from Amazon.com

A. Vogel Echinaforce Organic Whole Plant Echinacea Extract Natural, Proven Herbal Liquid Support for Healthy Immune Function - Best When Taken Daily -

P.S. I am 80 years old and this is the second cold I have had in 40 years, and that cold which was very similar took me 4 weeks to get over. I was in an astronomy class, where the teacher told us to all come back and meet on the roof of the building and bring our telescopes, stands and cameras because it would be cold and clear and we could see all the moons around Jupiter. It was great except it dropped to 38 degrees and we were on that roof from 2 a.m. till 5:30 a.m. and just freezing. Being sick at 40, I came out of it after 2 weeks, but not this time.

Hope this helps.

Thought I was done for . Three emergency visits to ER about every 3 weeks in a row.

Did some research that after 30 days of nebulizing 2 ingredients, my visit back to a pulmonologist and took the breathing test went from 19% to 96% ....Doctor told me he had never seen anything like it .....NO BS.

And yes they had me on prednisone ...not a cure ....but what else are they going to give you????

Once, about ten years ago, I suddenly came down with asthma which I actually cured. More recently I had a post Covid cough for months. I had endless mucus and was constantly wheezing and gasping for breath. I just couldn't get enough air. I tried a lot of natural remedies because I try very hard to stay away from doctors. Finally, I recalled how I got rid of asthma and tried it for my long- haul Covid. It is very simple, but don't let the simplicity stop you.

I drank 7-8 glasses of water with Redmonds Real Salt in it… about 1/8-1/4 teaspoon each time and in my last glass of water for the day I added 3 drops of Lugol's iodine to the water. It cleared up my lungs when nothing else would.

Prayers are always good too! ;)

Kind of makes sense as well that it MAY be related to your bike accident. Any major damage like you had to your lungs obviously affects all of the surrounding areas, especially breathing. But I would think the CT scan and X-rays would show damage right? Maybe like one of the other people suggested...see a pulmonologist? Hiking in the cold air is alkaline…when one is acidic alkaline air can throw you into a detox…which would purge mucus which is induced from inflammatory foods like milks and proteins.

Asthma and COPD are neurological issues…

See included link to Dr. Morse naturopathic doc…

Suplhur will help you breathe as long as you are not allergic to it…I've used 70% liquid DMSO to open the lungs immediately…it's one of the most potent inflammatory compounds on the planet and natural to your body…

Take 100% DMSO with a metal measuring spoon (never plastic as it's considered a solvent and will dissolve it. Use distilled water from gallon jug bought at grocery store…7 tsps dmso 3 tsp water in a glass jar…dose is a teaspoon or so to test/start…

Sounds like otherwise you are in great physical shape despite the recent troubles you have had. Look into Wim Hof's breathing method. It's helped to improve the lungs of so many people. Also, the Tibetan monks' breathing technique and Indian breathing yoga - Pranayama. The idea is to prevent lungs from collapsing and also prevent or reverse calcification of outer areas of lungs that don't get enough oxygen during normal breathing. From what I read, so many lung problems fall into COPD and the causes are all different. Of course, doctors will try and treat your symptoms with meds or will hook you up to oxygen which is only a "crutch" for your lungs but only symptoms will be addressed and not the real cause. Smoking for many years even though not heavily has probably partially contributed to your situation but I have known quite a few smokers who quit after 30-40 years and lived a very long life after that and some are still living and doing great.

Mama to Many above mentioned Mullein tea, which is the best natural remedy for lungs. Mullein grows everywhere and is treated as a weed by the ignorant. This tea may be a miracle for you like it's been for many with lung problems.

Also research good natural and organic supplements that are derived from beef lung (the like treats the like). There are a lot of companies that manufacture these but do your research. Considering how active you normally are, I'm pretty much sure you will be able to "unrestrict" yourself and live your normal life.

Dear Daniel,

the word FOG in your original description of what happened when looking for your dog really stood out to me. Woods, and fog - that could easily be some mold, fungal spores inhaled. Get some doctor who understands FUNGAL infections, and have them send a sample of your sputum from your lungs to a lab that tests for fungus. Do not let them tell you it could not be.

Some people even diagnoses with TB, or cancer of lung, when the fungus testing lab analyzes their sample - it turns out that the real problem is often of fungal origin!!!

Even CDC told doctors 5 years ago: "If a patient is not getting better with current protocol THINK FUNGUS ..."

Good luck with getting back to full health -soon.

Have you been vaxxed? If so, could be a side effect. Nevertheless, take mega-C every 3-4 hours for a day or two or until lungs stabilize

I did this after I quit smoking and Emphysema started to kick in. It took awhile but I'm fine today.

Daniel,

That's an awful lot of suffering you're experiencing!

Now I'm only guessing that it's possible you may have caught something deep into your lung/s when you were up in the mountains that is also irritating your previous injury close to the lungs. I don't know if it's spores or simply the unexpected sustained exertion or both that has caused your symptoms. I know from my own personal experience and that of others that the following nutritional supplements are a great help for the lungs and are also known to protect against Covid-19.

Every Six hours with food

Lypo-Spheric® Vitamin C: 1 sachet, Nutricost N-Acetyl Cysteine aka NAC 1000mg, Nutricost L-Lysine 500mg, Kirkman Alpha Ketoglutaric Acid 300mg, Zinc 25mg, Magnesium 500mg, Calcium 500mg, Vitamin K2 Mk7: 100mcg.

Vitamin C and Magnesium may cause diarrhea so increase Calcium and Vitamin K2 Mk7 accordingly. NAC will clear mucus and fluid out of your lungs.

Healthy Origins Vitamin D3: 10,000 iu in the morning with food (the above Vitamin K2 Mk7 and Zinc takes care of the need for it when taking Vitamin D3)

As a precautionary natural antibiotic in case of spores in your lung/s

4 to 6 times a day just before a meal

Nature Leaf Organic Olive Leaf: 3 capsules, Aromavita Oregano Oil: 3 soft gels, Wholesome Wellness Raw Probiotic 100 Billion CFU 34 Strains with Prebiotics & Digestive Enzymes: 1 capsule.

1x a day: Quercetin 500mg with a meal.

Ancestral Supplements: 'Lung' according to directions.

This is quite an expensive endeavor and I can only say that the above supplements have helped me and others immensely.

My best to you in good health,

Dana

Hi Daniel,

You might want to check out serrapeptase, it's an enzyme that may be helpful in breaking down scar tissue. Maybe you aggravated your old injury and it is actually trying to heal. (Aka healing crisis). Serrapeptase is also supposed to be good for fibrotic lungs. I also second NAC and melatonin. I use both intermittently with positive effect. PS: I've found meditation and cbd to be a great help with anxiety. Sending well wishes! Kati

Daniel,

Hi,

Our body is made up of myriads of bacteria and micro-organism, these micro organism, microbiomes sustain our heatlh, like the friendly bacteria in our intestine, and when the body dies they consume the body. (a book written by Ed Yong titled 'I CONTAIN MULTITUDES' ) will give some insite on this. Maybe on your long night in the mountains you may have come into contact with an alien organism which has disturbed the symbiosis of your bacteria colony, and has lodged itself in the cavities of the nose, or in the walls of the trachea leading to the lungs, or in the lining around your lungs, and it has affected your respitary system. Things you could try are: Liposomal Vitamin C which works both on the Intracellular and extracellular of the cells it is fat soluble. It is a good combatant for Covid as Covid goes into the cells to create mucuus that blocks the air paths, and the person will die from suffocation, also mentioned above is 'MELATONIN' which is a good combatant against Covid, and it will help in your sleeping pattern for you to access deep sleep, wherein the body can begin to rebalance itself and stabilise your immune system, also mention in above mails is 'SERRAPAPTASE', which works on healing scar tissues. another thing you could try is 'DMSO', read up on how to apply DMSO, if applying to the surface area of the skin localised. clean that area of the skin before application then swab, or spray to DSO 99.9% which is mixed with purified water, then you may apply natural soothing medication on the DMSO as it dries off. Peppermint Oil would be a good to start with, ..... DMSO penetrates the skin into the deeper layers of the Dermis, and is friendly to all your bacteria and micro-organism, there are other soothing and beneficial oils that you may try. Heavy drugs are not a good idea because they disturb the simbiotic relationships between the bug colonies within your body. Your organs are bug colonies. Other things you may try, are Rosemary oil, etc., every bug colony has its own operation system, concensus, and each is a consciousness unit. I believe those other conversations that you talk to in your mind, are personalities of these consciousness units, so the idea of talking to yourself to heal yourself makes sense, but ask permission, and be honest in your effort, and your intention about your motives of healing yourself. Another thing you might take into consideration is that you made a contact before you came into this lifetime as to how long you want to live, with conditions attached as to how you will die your body, you may want to look at that, because you will only live as long as you originally intended, but in todays science you can work towards longevity,, and as long as you are conscious of this you may want to adjust your ideas about life and death, life is flexible, and knowledge is power, now you can youth your body to maintain a sustainable age of maybe 40 years, and stave off the wrinkles, and the degeneration into death, so that your body can live a long healthy happy lifetime. The universe is very flexible, Alister Crowley wrote: Love is the Law, Love under will, Do as thou wilth is the whole, and do what thou wilth is the whole of the Law, but I dont he understood that it also applies to longevity, because he has died some time back. But with the new science of AI, it is opening our minds to the greater possibilities of having a long healthy youthful and intelligent life, it is like the higher you climb up a mountain is the greater and clearer the view, and the more possibility that opens up for you. Our lives are not at a deadend when you are advancing in age, it is not a Cul-de sac. We are here on a journey, the journey of humanity is to be awake, aware, conscious, and grow toward Self Intelligence. The Universe is a self intelligent unit, God is self intelligent, and the gift of life is a self intelligent unit, you have one in you.

I hope this may help you on your journey towards sustainable health and wellbeing, and happiness.

With very best wishes,

Hi Daniel!

It sounds like mis diagnosis is a strong possibility, based on their surprise at how clear your lungs are.

Colloidal Silver is excellent.

Mullien tea is also.

I would also suggest Elderflower tea.

Keep up the good work. Do NOT let fear dictate your treatments.

Sound like you might have lung damage. After having pneumonia, I was told my my doc that the lung damage would last for six weeks. (BTY an x ray of my lungs diagnosed me at that time as in "pulmonary and cardiac failure". I recovered. Maybe a miracle.) My family uses lysine (500 mg twice a day) plus 12.5 mg iodine until we start to feel better (takes about a week). Then we continue on this regime for three weeks more. Works especially well on our viral illnesses.

Ironic with colloidal silver which I have always kept in stock with other natural products! I also used ascorbic acid, B6, zinc, quercetin, D3, k2, cal/mag butyrate, L carnosine, mastic gum! I am 61 also and have maintained a very clean diet as possible with also fermented veggies lots with every meal! We all need today to help our bodies Detox because of the atrocities taking place worldwide! The air food water and just about everything we put in or on our bodies. Lots of prayers for our neighbors every where in the planet because the only one that is going to stop the madness taking place is God! The best to you sir!

Hi Daniel,

I have what they call COPD, but I never cough, so It might be fibrosis. The only related problem I have is I will immediately get short of breath for no reason. It can be when I'm doing dishes, for instance.

I'm going to try what others have said, but right now I just have some Whiskey when it gets rough. Most of the Lung tinctures are alcohol based, and the alcohol does temporarily paralyze the lung sacs so they flap instead of closing.

If I drink too much water, my lungs shut down and I have to sit for a while.

There is a new product on the way that I have been investigating from Enzolytics, it should be out next week or so in CVS / Amazon etc. called IPF Immune. While not specifically for the lungs, it strengthens the entire immune system (For anybody that smoked or is in contact with any air).

Scroll down on the link a little to read about IPF Immune.

Good Luck!

yes. I am in a research group, we are tracking plane gridding activity in the U.K. but also worldwide. Where planes have gridded, but left only wisps in the sky (you need an app to see this, the chemtrails blanket sky is NOT causing breathing issues) is often where people are feeling heavy lungs, plus coughing, headache and sore throat etc. There are many chemicals being placed in the sky by planes, but arsenic is one. Look up the symptoms of arsenic poisoning...

lightning (man made) activates the chemicals in the atmosphere and oscillates them in cells, causing much illness. Look up Sky and Earth Anomalies on telegram, who are tracking the planes and correlating with breathing difficulties. They are a research channel only, but you will find you are not alone. Time outside breathing in the chemicals can cause lung issues in many healthy people. not an answer to your question, but maybe help you understand what's going on. They will offer help in remedies too; detoxing heavy metals via choline/distilling water etc

HI Daniel, just wanted to mention additional benefits for lungs can be from an herbal tea of plantain leaf. My German mother grew up with herbs and said they used this for TB and other lung and respiratory problems. Another is to use a bit eucalyptus as an inhalant (helps open the passageways and disinfects) over a dish of warm water with a couple of drops in it, put a towel over your head while leaning over this and breathe it in if you are able to. Saunas are wonderful detoxifiers that can lighten the toxin load we accumulate in our lives... Sweat is one of the body paths of elimination. Feels great too, sleep well after. There are lots of good natural ways to heal ourselves. Best wishes.

Hi Daniel,

I saw you are already doing two great things… taking melatonin and colloidal silver. So maybe you need to look at the dosage of melatonin? Gradually up it, perhaps? Brew the colloidal silver so you can drink large amounts daily as well as nebulise it. I believe doing these two right will significantly heal your condition.

someone has mentioned vitamin c… and other vitamins. I second that.

there's one additional thing… massaging the soles of your feet every night before sleeping with either ghee (clarified butter) or cold pressed mustard oil. Use firm, upward strokes, and circular pressing on painful or tender points. Do it for 5 minutes at least.

Can you learn gentle pranayama from someone… nadi shodhan is the best in your situation. It's also called alternate nostril breathing. Start small and build up retention and exhalation time very, very gradually. Always breathe comfortably.

you will be fine! Prayers for you to be fit soon.

Serrapeptase is well known particularly in Europe and Great Britain for cleansing the lungs of phlegm as well as colloidal silver. Serrapeptase is a digestive enzyme, also known for cleansing arterial plaques and scar tissue.

Every surgical I have on my body are now all thin white lines - no keloid ridges. It was developed by a famous German heart physician, Dr Hans Nieper. He would give his potential bypass patients serrapeptase in large IU's and not have to do bypasses because it worked so well cleaning the plaque. BUT ALSO A BENEFIT IS CLEANSING THE LUNGS of mucus and phlegm. Research can be done through serrapeptase.org.

These three supplements have helped my lungs over the years. Quercetin dihydrate, Dash Table Blend seasoning and ivermectin horse paste.

In 2016, I became convinced that no disease could overtake or coexist in the lungs of any person who takes quercetin.

For the lungs, maybe try taking a level 1/2 to 1 level measuring teaspoon of BulkSupplements.com quercetin dihydrate powder, swallowed with water, mornings. That is about 500 mg to 1 gram per day. I order the 250 gram bag. Quercetin also gives me energy. I currently take just 1/4 level measuring teaspoon with water, or about 250 mg, mornings.

Also maybe try taking 1/2 to 1 level measuring teaspoon of Walmart's salt-free Dash Table Blend (DTB) seasoning blend in the 6.75 oz bottle, in the spice aisle. For decades, DTB has thinned and liquified my lung and sinus mucus, usually within several days, but I now take DTB daily and permanently for life. DTB has 14 herbs, some of them expectorants like marjoram, thyme and chili. In 2016, I couldn't clear my throat, and a 1/2 teaspoon dose of DTB within the same afternoon easily and amazingly unplugged my stubborn laryngitis.

However, in late 2019 and throughout 2020, I started taking a chest cold, probably Covid, 3 different times or every 3 months, even while I was taking quercetin. So for 15 months, every two weeks I started taking 4 segments of the Apple Flavored Durvet Ivermectin (IVM) horse paste, 1.87%, that I ordered from Amazon. For the third and final chest cold, I also started taking the IVM horse paste. The IVM allowed my lungs to cough up much mucus over the first 12 days on IVM. After that third chest cold, there were no more chest colds for me because they stopped happening with the IVM. The IVM horse paste veterinary dose that I use is .2 times one's body weight in kilograms. I weigh 210 or 95.2544 kg, which works out to 19.05 mg of IVM. Each segment of horse paste contains 5 mg of ivermectin, so I would take 4 segments of the paste every 2 weeks which is twice per month, once on the 1st of the month and again on the 16th or 17th of each month. I have read that some people take that dose weekly instead of bi-weekly.

Then in January of 2022, having stopped taking the IVM horse paste, I realized that by taking PipingRock's zinc picolinate 50 mg capsules at 400 mg per day, I could stop a chest cold while it was in the sore throat phase, before it goes to the lungs. That's 100 mg of zinc every 6 hours during the winter months. Now, in the warmer months, two capsules which is 100 mg of zinc, mornings and early afternoons (twice per day, ) seems to get rid of a runny nose/sniffles for me. So I am able to pre-empt the virus at various stages or seasonal allergies with zinc picolinate, the most absorbable form of zinc. I tried taking zinc citrate powder and it didn't work at all for me in the winter of 2022, so I quickly switched back to the picolinate form to extinguish virus symptoms. I was getting chest cold symptoms or a sore throat the day after I would go to town, say every 10 days. So adequate zinc picolinate intake is very effective at keeping me well and unaffected by chest cold symptoms. PipingRock has fairly frequent sales where a 180 capsule bottle of 50 mg is around $7.50 at this point in time, in late May of 2022.

You may wish to try the following:

1) add magnesium supplement. There are studies showing it helps asthma. 300-400 mg/day

2) add black seed oil. Should be helpful. One teaspoon twice daily.

3) definitely high dose vitamin c. 2000 mg x 3 times daily, but not past 4:00 pm as it affects sleep.

4) you could try nebulized DILUTED hydrogen peroxide. Check Mercola or Dr Brownstien's instructions.

5) nebulized steroids such as Pulmicort may be sufficiently effective to reduce or drop the systemic steroids you are taking.

6) CDS as mentioned by others may be beneficial.

My first thought was a parasite or spore. Check out the protocols outlined here at Earth Clinic or look into Dr Hulda Clark's protocols. If you're taking any medications, be sure to check with your doctor to avoid interactions.

Your mention of the muscular injury near the lung made me think that you may want to look into Rolfing, aka structural integration. Perhaps there's some connective tissue stress, activated by the activities of the day, that's agitated the lungs and put them in overdrive. Go to the Dr. Ida Rolf website to find a local practitioner and find one with the most experience. I think you would benefit greatly from even a conversation with an experienced Rolfer.

Red light has amazing healing properties. Check out YouTube for reviews on the most effective and affordable red light machines that you can sit in front of for a few minutes a day to get some deep cellular healing.

I'll pray on your situation and add anything else that comes to me. In the meantime, please keep us posted.

I'm shocked at what has happened to you! It will definitely go away sooner or later. But the first thing to do at your age, you do not need to do any hiking. Hiking is an unnecessary burden on the body. Doing that when young, until about 50, maybe fine. But at 60+ better not.

Second, order Mullein extract on iHerb. There is also a supplement called "breath easy", forgot the brand. NAC is a Must too. Also on iHerb, get Noni Juice, organic by Nature's Bounty. Maybe Aloe Vera juice too. SerraGold (serrapeptase) by Enzymedica or by Andrew Medical (quite expensive though). All the Best!

Here is an excerpt from the info I saved when researching NAC and its benefit for preventing and treating Covid due to its ability to stop a cytokine storm:

"NAC supplements have been used to improve COPD symptoms, exacerbations, and lung decline.

In a one-year study, 600 mg of NAC twice a day significantly improved lung function and symptoms in those with stable COPD."

Wow, Great answers here.

I would like to add that spiritually speaking, self care is called for here. Your body is talking to you, take time to listen. Meditation is not easy, but staying calm and finding your own way of feeling into the body mind complex to have a feeling conversation with it and what is going on, and what the body needs. It is your vehicle in which you are engaged with, in a life journey, sometimes when we don't 'get it', I.e. what is going on, our body finds ways to alert you about your inner machinations/your environment/your beliefs that maybe unhelpful to health, or deeply embedded feelings such as regret/disappointment in some area of life /anger/overwhelm. Lungs are associated with Grief, look into grief and google writings on grief. Grief is very real and often over looked, hidden ignored, Grief is sometimes not obvious, and can be a big 'inner still lake' in the body/mind complex that, while 'still' can be lived with, but something comes along and tips a very precarious balance... and then the tsunami begins. (Floods of phlegm). It may not be obvious why you have grief but many many things, situations and Losses can build up over time and if ignored or unprocessed can create, and add to, a sense of grief.

While you are now in this period of self care dealing with the demanding health issues, you are given an opportunity to embrace and resolve any inner or outer obstacles to a healthy relationship with yourself and with Life, which is all the body wants, to be in a flow with you, and to walk you through where difficulties in life have arisen and need to be resolved and where you can gain a fulfilling expansion for yourself within this life. Create a self care structure to your day, and night routines, where you are consciously creating a space for fulfillment in life beginning with caring for yourself and love the self as you would do for anybody or anything you trully love.

Fit self love activities in your routine, like shopping for and making good food/drinks as well as the rest you need, and the therapies you choose (as listed in all these answers from caring people, ). I Like the 'celery juice' antidote, for clearing stuff from the body like heavy metals and stuff we are unaware we are taking in from chemicals in food..drink.. air.. meds.. lifestyle.. that cause us problems... research Celery juice as a powerful antidote for auto immune conditions.

Good Luck thoughts and wishes for the self is as important as healthy good 'self speak'. Thoughts and words to self should be soothing and reassuring.... auto immune conditions are aggressive bodily reactions from the self, to outside/invasive beliefs/environmental factors (pollutions) and other life factors that tell you the world is harsh and that you have to protect yourself from it, or avoid it all together. Most auto immune symptoms are literally unexplained reactions that are demanding your attention.

Try Homeopathy!! It is magical if you find the 'right' remedy for you!! Truly magical. It doesn't mask the symptoms, but rather actually 'cures'!! But, it MUST MATCH YOU! Find a Homeopathic Practitioner! I'm new at this, but it continues to amaze me. My partner just woke up with gout on both big toes. We gave him the remedy that matched 'him' (which was Bryonnia) and the one on the Rt toe is totally gone in less than 15 minutes. His L toe has greatly diminished in redness, pain and swelling. He may need one more dose. But the thing is with homeopathy, once the symptoms are gone, you stop taking it! It is completely safe! (unlike Big Pharma drugs)

"Lomatium is a powerful herbal antibiotic that is highly effective for respiratory ailments such as COPD, pneumonia, tuberculosis, bronchitis, chronic cough, and asthma. It can also significantly improve overall immune function and is a fantastic herbal preventative to use during cold and flu season.

Lomatium contains antiviral properties that have been shown to be a potent treatment for viral illnesses such as influenza, hepatitis, mumps, hiv, shingles, measles, chickenpox, mononucleosis, and epstein barr. It also has the ability to help relieve chest pain and upset stomach that frequently accompanies the flu.

Lomatium is also particularly beneficial for urinary tract and bladder infections. Its strong anti-inflammatory properties are known to decrease swelling in joints and reduce bloating and edema which makes it a great herb for those who have autoimmune disorders and suffer from chronic pain, fatigue, lower back pain, and inflammation.

Lomatium has the ability to make the blood more alkaline which can help to detoxify the body. Topically, lomatium is excellent for disinfecting cuts, scrapes, rashes, and wounds. Lomatium grows in the wild in the southwest and was revered by the Native Americans as one of their top herbal antibiotics.

During the 1917 flu pandemic, lomatium root was successfully used by the Native Americans to help keep them healthy and help ward off illness. Lomatium can be found online or at your local health food store in tincture, extract, capsule, tea, and salve form."

Daniel,

I agree with others' suggestions to try Mullein. Also agree with others about detrimental effects of FOG, and according to an old doctor from many years ago, late afternoon air - 4pm air onwards (especially in winter) is unhealthy for kids, the elderly and those in ill health. On the off chance there's still bruising/dead blood in your lung from previous lung injury, Doctor's Best Natto Sera may help because it dissolves dead blood/clots and shuttles it away from site of injury. Both Nattokinase and Serapeptase are needed in order to effect dissolving and shuttling blood away.

Astragalus has multiple health benefits and may also be of help. Like an all round general tonic that heals on cellular (DNA) level.

For anxiety; 1 capsule of each: GABA 500mg, L-Tryptophan 500mg and L-Theanine 200mg on and empty stomach first thing in the morning. And at bedtime on an empty stomach 1 capsule of each: GABA 500mg and L-Tryptophan 500mg.

My best to you in good health,

You have received much advice. Good advice. It's good that you stopped smoking. Twenty years is considered the point of no return.

I was a heavy smoker for fifteen years. Three packs a day at the end. I quit, cold turkey. As for you, you are by now beginning to realize, that the health care system is no help. I have been in their system for ten years. I have taken their drugs. Nine pills a day, for my heart, and I have only gotten worse. When it comes to health and wellness, you can forget your doctors. Your recovery will never happen as long as you remain in their system.

Then there is the question of your age. You are younger than I am. I just turned 74. We do slow down as we age. After reading your email, the first thing to pop into my little sheep's brain is,

how is your heart? Is your heart strong? did you ever have a stress test for your heart, or do you just assume it's fine?

There are more questions than answers. I see that you are fully engaged in the guessing game, as I am. When it comes to health and healing, we are on our own. Our health care system is totally corrupt. The human body is quite marvelous and intricate. Most doctors know nothing about how it works.

Do you really have COPD? you may, but then again, it could be something else. I would recommend, that you seek a practitioner of natural medicine. They will look deeper into your blood to find out what is going on in your body.

The standard blood work done by hospitals is inadequate at finding the underlying cause of your sickness. You must know what it is, that you are fighting before you can engage in a program of recovery. Today's medical practice is all about drugs and nothing else. Which is why you are still looking for answers. You are on your own, Daniel. The answers are out there. But only you can find them.

In closing, consider this,

do you eat healthy foods?
are you well hydrated?
do you have any heavy metals in your body?
do you have any toxic chemicals in your body?
do you have any silver fillings in your teeth?
Were you ever exposed to any chemicals on any of your past jobs?

You see, there's a lot more going on inside our body than doctors know.

Do your homework. it's not easy. Drugs cover the symptoms, but knowledge reveals the truth.

Best wishes - The Truth Seeker

After working in healthcare 25yrs and trusted my team, this route was almost tripped over.

I would say that as one who acquired COPD w/ nodule, in my mid-40's-(no pulmonary issues before. But, 2nd hand smoke until 18yo--both parents dead before my story began with lung cancer-nonsmoker & pneumonia-life long smoker) and has been healed by God, via prayer & hydrogen peroxide. Nodule & all related lung disease removed from my healthcare chart (scarring &"history of" remains) and not had any recurring symptoms for almost 8 years. Not even bronchitis or asthma. I am quick to share H2O2 remedy that I read about & researched extensively on this & other sites.

I did protocol for pulmonary disease. (book; One-Minute Cure)
Over time, I added Iodine and began a few core vitamins-Magnesium, D, Potassium, B's & C as well.
i strongly advocate for H2O2 based on my remarkable story but I read everything I could find, personal reviews and books

not sure where it is now, but I did recount my story here on Earthclinic-the site I now come to for virtually all health concerns Self, loved ones, pets...

The one thing I would say is that heart & lung issues have increased by un-naturally high numbers since trial-phase injections of Covid-19 I would encourage you to continue colloidal silver & do not even consider a(nother) injection. I also dosed ACV and normalized my blood pressure & gut. while you read, watch all the info. avail. your life will be forever changed with all you learn--remember to filter & scroll on certain extremes. Connect your dots by adding up several stories saying similar.

All the best for your journey back to health. Congratulations on stopping smoking, must feel great and what an accomplishment after 40yrs!

Unfortunately, the this can be a frustrating Diagnosis. Seeing a pulmonologist is important. Cold temps and physical stress…. definitely will give sudden exacerbation of COPD or even asthma. The colloidal silver should assist in clearing out inflammation, the suggested mullein is a great suggestion. I used to use a mullein, coltsfoot and one other herb for my asthma (can't remember) in a tea. Nac ( the Nac controversy has been going on 50 yrs) I've bought locally and ebay….amazon opted to drop it. Nac is also a good option to improve immune system but a major driver of immune system is Vitamin D3 use gel cap probably check your level and work to obtain at least 60/70. I take 10k and check every 6 mos. I rotate months as long as my numbers are up. It is imperative to use k2 (MK7 version) both gel caps 100 mcg per 10k of D. Research carefully brand choice. K2 drives calcium into the bones instead of soft tissues like arteries or joints. K2 is part of gut biome and is different than k1. Both vitamins k2 and D3 are anti inflammatory vitamins. Several studies released on asthma/copd and low D…the benefits are immense. In 3 years I've only had minor symptoms and updrafted once due a allergy attack and no inhaler. Vitamin D3 is a natural alternative to prednisone and yes it can be taken for short periods in mega doses. “Vitamin k2 and the calcium paradox” is a book that covers some beneficial info of raising D3 for bone health but covers why magnesium helps this therapy and vitamin A (stay away from red palm and retinols) low vitamin A is attributed to frequent infections.' A, D, and K are fat soluble vitamins A and D have know toxicity levels K2 does not. Most of this info you can google. YouTube has some videos by Dr Berg the “natural alternative to prednisone” and countless videos on MK7 and D3 benefits, COPD, Asthma frequent lung infections. Even nebulizing saline can help clear throat and lung mucus. Air power (guaifenesin) is a more natural expectorant works very well. Stay away from drinking cold things when your reactive as these can cause restriction in the bronchials. Best to drink room temperature drinks at this time or hot herbal teas even if your feeling coughy or restricted. When exposed to cold I use a neck gator scarf to prevent it from affecting my lungs so much. Watch for breathlessness from walking, you may need your inhaler, emotional stress can trigger it, a lot of times they'll recommend using inhaler now on waking to help open the lungs. The lungs go hand in hand with the heart so stressing the lungs eventually damages the heart and vs versa. A pulmonologist is really key in getting onboard with management but natural remedies can help you a lot. Sometimes attacks do come on suddenly and the inflammation. The suggestions of Nattokinase Natto …is MK7 (k2) is derived from. Serapeptase is caterpillars and lumbrokinase is worm…all greatly reduce protein inflammation. Several others have made really good suggestions as well. You can google the info like how serapeptase helps COPD but also ask if there's dangers or problems with taking serrapeptase. If you have other conditions google serapeptase and that condition. The search will give a variety of common search answers.

Hope you have some improvement and maybe some great suggestions to help you out! Be well

My Mom has COPD and when she visited I put her on my PEFM MAt (pulsed electromagnetic field) and she didn't have one attack while here.

Hello Daniel,

Hey so let me tell you a story that happened to me and my friend. We got poisoned by an air cloud that contained a meth lab fire with burned lead and asbestos. At the time we were not sick for about 2 or three years. We were practising a great healthy lifestyle. Yet after this happened we both got knocked down to needing double the sleep. This went on for 3 months. We basically used antioxidants and I was also doing breathing exercises on a regular basis. Sweating and a lot of water was important. The way I see it is when you are out of wack with toxic chemicals it's not something you can pin. Do what you can find that makes you better and do that. It's a great path as long as you return back to nature. Medicinal Mushrooms work well too. There is a book called the cure for all advanced cancers and if you are looking for a science that backs up itself, it's in that book. All my best!

Daniel, I have had two incidents that sound just like what you experienced. Both times I had to go to the ER and be nebulized for hours to be able to breathe again. However, each time I went home and put some colloidal silver in a personal sized ultra sonic humidifier and breathed it in for about 10 minutes, every hour for about 4 hours and was fine after that. Each time, I coughed up a lot of mucus. I have no real idea why this happened, but I feel I breathed in a pathogen of some sort and the CS killed it.
