Throat Mucus in the Morning, Siblings Have It Too
In the first part of the day, I have excessive throat mucus and must continually try to clear my throat. Is there a reason for such mucus? Both of my sisters experience the same thing daily. I recall my father doing the same throat clearing. Any help is appreciated.

Salt thins mucus, but I would consider what microbe imbalance may be at play also. I use apple cider vinegar 1 tsp in cup of water in morning. It deals with mucus issues, tastes aweful, drink through a straw. Don't heat it or cool it or it ruins the mother/veil/antibiotic properties it has.
Ann, you may consider N Acetyl Cysteine for among it's many benefits, are a protective and restorative of the lungs, and a thinning of mucous. Best to you.

I have this issue as well. I am not sure the cause of it, but it can be thick enough to gag me. I think it is Silent Reflux causing it. You can check that out and see if your symptoms match here:

For mine, I've found drinking plenty of water helps and I am managing 6 of the 8 ounces so far (never been good at drinking water but now it's 99% of my liquid a day). I have read that if it's "environmental" allergies, your mucous is usually clear, mine is not and it's stuck there like glue (sorry).
Anyway, if it's really bad I take a few sips of baking soda water, and/or, irrigate with Sea salt. Since your family has it too, I'm not sure what it could be, this reply is just to tell you what mine is like. I hope it helps. I also have Acid Reflux of course, so I am careful to not eat any, or at least, too many of the foods that can trigger it.
