Toddler Bit By Tick - MtM, Please Suggest Remedies

Posted by Hollyhock (America) on 05/03/2026

Mama to many, I hope you can suggest a treatment for tick bite on our granddaughter tight under her eyelid. We got it out, I cleaned the area with colloidal silver several times. I have Ledum pellets, but unsure if it's safe to give a 15 month toddler. We are calling the pediatrician in the morning for advice as well. Any advice please, we are all shook up!

Dear Hollyhock,

I am sorry to hear about your granddaughter's tick bite! I am not familiar with Ledum pellets, but I have used homeopathy for older infants and toddlers before. Maybe someone with experience with Ledum pellets will chime in.

It is unfortunate that the bite is in such a sensitive spot as it does limit the remedies that can be used.

If you can get her to take turmeric internally it has anti-inflammatory and anti-biotic properties. For a toddler I would try 1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder mixed in yogurt or applesauce 4 times a day. Tick bites can, at a minimum, cause a lot of itching and the turmeric really helps that. Also, garlic any way, any form can be used in foods liberally for the same purposes as turmeric.

I would definitely keep sugar to a minimum to allow the body to fight any potential disease and minimize inflammation.

If the eye swells you can try a moist black tea bag or chamomile tea bag if she will tolerate it. Charcoal poultices are another option but very messy for toddlers and usually not well tolerated.

If it is any comfort, my very young son had so many tick bites when we first moved to Tennessee 14 years ago. I kept him on astragalus root for a long time to prevent Lyme's Disease. He never did show any signs of sickness and he is now a very healthy teen. If the risk of tick bites is high, I do recommend astragalus root for immunity building and maintenance.

Keep me posted on how she is doing! I am curious as to what the pediatrician recommends. One of my older sons had to take antibiotics for a tick bite that had a bulls eye rash 25 years ago. He has never been any worse for the wear.
