What Can Help My Dog With Cloudy Eyes?
Hi. My 4 month old dog 2 1/2 pound Griffon, has developed cloudy eyes. The vet didn't really know what to do. Said I have to take her to a specialist and may need 2,500.00 surgery. Yikes. Is there any natural cure for cloudy eyes?

Hello Suzie,
There are reasons why dogs get cloudy eyes. They may have a cataract inside the eye that will make it appear cloudy [JC/juvenile cataracts]; they might have entropion, where the rim of the eye rolls inward causing the eye lashes to rub on the eyeball causing a sore which causes cloudiness, or there are extra eyelashes [called dystichia] which also rug on the eyeball abrading it and causing cloudiness or the eye may have been injured which might also cause cloudiness. If your vet gave you NO CLUE I would find another vet.
In your shoes I would call my breeder and explain the situation and get a referral to a vet qualified to treat your breed. It is entirely possible a remedy at EC will help, but eyes are very delicate - please get a diagnosis from a qualified vet first and then let us know what you find.

Hi, use cold pressed castor oil in drops into the eye.
EC had once a post from a lady that cleared her cataracts. However castor oils is good for many eye problems and I use it myself. It is soothing and cleansing.
I use it on aging pets to prevent blindness.

The lenses of the eyes have a filtering mechanism called the blood corneal barrier. This filter keeps larger debris floating in the blood stream from clouding the eyes. In a deficiency of vitamin C like people are prone to the lenses cloud up much more easily. Dogs make their own vitamin C but due to genetic abnormality etc might not be enough.
The very best antioxidant for the eyes is called astaxanthin. It's molecule size is very small so it easily penetrates the blood corneal barrier to nourish the corneas. Astaxanthin is the most powerful of all antioxidants for eye health being 50 times stronger than vitamin C and 500 times stronger than vitamin E. If it were my dog, I would supplement him with astaxanthin.
Now, one last thing, be sure not to ever give him corn based dog food since its made from GMO crops. Dogs are predators not able to digest grain very well. Their natural diet is of course raw meat. Some butcher shops give away meat scraps if you ask for it. Many food allergies and vet bills can be avoided by giving him a good diet and lots of probiotics.
