What Can Treat Herbicide Burns Received A Few Years Ago

Posted by Burnt (South Africa) on 12/21/2014

I was burnt with chemicals a few years back. I think they used herbicides and they got me in my sleep. The burns are still on my body today, and it's a tingling pain that doesn't go away. I am looking for a solution to this pain. Nothing has worked that I've tried so far. Does any one know of a remedy for herbicide or chemical burns of the skin that won't go away? Please help!

Dear Burnt,

I can think of several things I would try. A home made plantain salve would be my first choice. If you are able to get plantain, I can tell you how to make it.

Castor or oil may be helpful. Or extra Virginia coconut oil. You could put them on topically a couple of times a day. They could be mixed together.

What have you tried so far?

BHT might help. As a young Marine serving in Vietnam I was exposed to so called AGENT ORANGE, a herbicide. Many exposed veterans did report severe conditions including various cancers as a result of exposure to AGENT ORANGE. I do recall the planes flying over us spraying this what I now KNOW was agent orange. Anyway: I began taking BHT on a daily basis beginning in 1997 and have never had any agent orange type symptoms. I weigh about 200 pounds and have been taking the BHT in 350mg capsules since 1997. Will BHT help you ? I do NOT know....Oscar

If the chemical is still in your skin I would first try applying Clay over the affected area. If this doesn't work, try Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2). Either or both these will remove the herbicide w/ a few applications.

To help heal the skin apply Aloe Vera juice or gel.
