Would Castor Oil Help Child With Diarrhea

Posted by Mikell (Louisville, Kentucky) on 11/23/2014

My son has diarrhea and my mother-in-law advised that I make him take castor oil to treat it. Does anyone here have tried this before? I have already took him to his pedia and he was prescribed probiotics, antibiotics, and oral rehydration salts. His stool improved in the first 3 days but yesterday he had watery stool again. Please advise us what to do?

Hi

Sorry to hear of your son's illness, my initial concern would be to ensure he remains hydrated and coconut juice is perfect for this. Let him drink as much as he wants. Next you might want to attempt to increase his good gut bacteria, you can do this buy feeding him fermented foods or simply buy a good quality Probiotic from your local health food store.

Good Luck

Dear Mikell,

I would not give castor oil for diarrhea. Castor oil is used to get the bowel moving, as in constipation. You do not want that effect right now.

Turmeric is very effective for diarrhea. I give 1/2 teaspoon to little children and 1 teaspoon to adults several times a day for diarrhea. It can be mixed in some applesauce or honey.

1 teaspoon of raw apple cider vinegar in some juice is also helpful. (Maybe 4 ounces of juice.) I give a Tablespoon of ACV to adults for diarrhea.

My three year old had terrible diarrhea on Friday. I mixed 1 teaspoon of turmeric into a kefir smoothie and had him take some if it every hour or two during the day and he was completely fine by bedtime.

I hope your son feels much better soon!

Hello Mikell

About your son...sounds like he has a lower tract infection. EC has a lot about the use of apple cider vinegar to deal with this problem. I'd use a tablespoon in a glass of water. Some add a one third teaspoon of baking soda...seems to be a bit more effective and more palatable.

Even young children benefit. Three glasses of Apple Cider Vinegar water can be consumed daily.

Not internally. You could make a Castor Oil Pack, for 1 hr at a time, over your son's abdomen. This is said to attract the body's T11, leukocyte healing cells to the area. Castor Oil Packs were called for frequently by Edgar Cayce. I have used them frequenty for many ddifferent ailments and they have never let me down. Instructions are on this site. Good luck.
