Yellow Lab With Worst Yeast Infection

Posted by Tina (Malvern, Arkansas) on 08/25/2011

My yellow lab is 6 years old and has the worst yeast infection I have ever seen. His ears ooze a smelly substance and he constantly chews his feet and now he has a large hairless area under his chin chat gets moist and smelly. My vet wants to give an oral medicine that can cause damage to his liver and kidneys and I just don't think I want to do that. I hear of the ACV and yogert and wondering if it truely works. I clean his ears regularly with white vinegar and alcohol and it helps but does not completly clear them up. I have also used transaderm drops from the vet and that helps also but I go through it like crazy. I just wish I could find something that would git rid of this mess for good. I hate to see him so miserable!

Hi, my name is Lisa and I have a cocker spaniel who suffers with a yeast infection in the ears and has now penetrated to her skin, unfortunately when I took her to the vet all he did was charge me over $200 for a steroid shot and some medicine I could buy without his help, he never told me that it could be her diet and that cocker spaniels should not eat wheat products at all. So I started researching an I found that myah's diet besides the hair in her ears was the main culprit, so I started first on a regimen of washing her with ACV (Apple cider vinegar), that did relieved her day by day, so I started reading more and few months later I have figured out that not only do I have to treat the yeast but her entire self, so I have switched her to an all natural raw diet of which I researched what she could eat, and I make her meals weekly using raw chicken, lamb, beef, turkey knecks, carrots, broccili, yogurt, parsley, garlic, an basically just about everything we can eat. I chop this up add lots of water and ACV, she gobbles this up like no tomorrow. The cost of her food has gone down, cause I buy this stuff regulary, this way I insure she never gets any grains or by products as so many of these dog foods have in them. She gets no fillers at all, the stuff looks so good my husband thinks its his stir fry I am preparing. (I just started this diet, so I will let you know how she is doing but so far so good, I can tell a difference already as the itching is not as bad) At night she use to scratch so much she would wake us up cause she sleeps at the foot of the bed and it would feel like we were having small earth quake trimmers). I have went all natural for her care which also includes treating her skin once a week in her shampoo with Neem Oil-this oil is pure and it deters ticks, fleas, flies and most any insect, this can also be used on yourself to keep moskitos away. it has a distinct smell but if you mix with some lavendar shampoo, ACV , water, she knows when she see's her spray bottle come out its time to get treated and she just sits there an lets me spray her down. if we go to the park I spray her down for added protection but we have been flea free for over a year now so I know this works. Her skin is improving an she has less abrassions, under her kneck is still missing hair but it slowly coming back. I keep her hair cut short so I can monitor her skin. her ears flair up not as much but I just take an dropper and skirt ACV mixed with water in her ear, wipe them out with her towel, she does her shake, we do this at bedtime and this way she can sleep peacefully without all that scratching that goes with the yeast infection. I won't know for awhile if the yeast infection subside, but I will follow up. Oh one more note, as with any infection she had broke out with a boil that was full of gunk and all I did was apply warm compresses and treated it with the Neem oil (undiluted) and she no longer has that boil nor has she had anymore boils or inflamed skin. Hope this helps, you can get Neem oil mostly from online pet stores but it is much better than using the pesticide that are sold for pets. I even treat my yard with it an that controls the fleas and stuff in the yard.
